Sign up to join RMFI for a hike to see the work completed this Fall in Garden of the Gods on Wednesday, October 28 at 5:00 pm to enjoy a beautiful evening and an in-depth look at the work completed this Fall! Hike with Executive Director Jess; Program Manager for Garden of the Gods Projects, Elizabeth; Garden of the Gods Trail Crew Leader, Sean; and Calla, our Marketing and Community Engagement Manager.

RMFI Crews recently finished 11 days of work at Palmer Park on the Lower Templeton Trail. An offshoot from Templeton proper on the north side of the park, where this section of the trail had become difficult to follow and challenging to navigate

Over the course of the project, crews moved more than 15,000 pounds of rock to install rock armoring and construct a waterfall step section and backwall through a challenging sandstone area near the top of the trail. What was once a rock scramble is now a more durable trail feature that blends seamlessly with the unique character of Palmer Park.

2026 RMFI Family Tree Planting at Blodgett Open Space

What was once part of the Pikeview Quarry mining operation is continuing its transformation into a thriving public open space, thanks to the power of community stewardship.

This year, 64 volunteers ranging in age from 3 years old and up came together to plant 425 Ponderosa Pine and Mountain Mahogany saplings near the Quarry Trailhead at Blodgett Open Space. With every tree planted, volunteers helped restore this landscape, creating a healthier, more resilient ecosystem for future generations to enjoy.

We are deeply grateful for everyone who joined us in caring for this special place. Your time, energy, and dedication are helping shape the future of Blodgett Open Space, ensuring it remains a place where people and nature can thrive together.

Thank you for planting roots in the future of this landscape with us.

What an amazing National Public Lands Day!

Volunteers joined RMFI at Austin Bluffs Open Space to construct a trail reroute on the Rim Trail, at Garden of the Gods to repair timber steps on the Old Colorado City Trail, and at Shelf Road to maintain the climbing access trail with Pikes Peak Climber's Alliance.

Thanks to the dedication and hard work of these incredible volunteers, meaningful improvements were made to some of our most treasured public spaces. We're so grateful for everyone who spent the day giving back and helping care for our public lands and to our community sponsor, Alpine Bank for their support of our public lands in Southern Colorado.
