The Colorado Department of Early Childhood has recognized Dr. Shana Lachowicz, CPCD’s Senior Director of Early Education, as an Early Childhood Champion during Head Start Awareness Month.

A former Head Start child, Shana now leads 200+ early childhood professionals across 60+ classrooms, helping children and families thrive.

For Dr. Shana Lachowicz, Head Start is more than a career. It's part of her own story.

After attending Head Start as a child, Shana went on to become a Head Start teacher and now serves as senior director of early education at Community Partnership for Child Development (CPCD) in Colorado Springs.

This Head Start Awareness Month, we're recognizing Shana for nearly 20 years of leadership, supporting more than 200 early childhood professionals across 60+ classrooms and helping strengthen early learning experiences for children and families.

What happens when Head Start leaders from Colorado head to Washington, D.C.? They bring the stories and experiences of the children and families they serve with them.

CPCD President & CEO Stacie Datteri and CAO Amanda Rogers recently traveled to D.C. for the National Head Start Association’s Fall Leadership Institute, joining leaders and advocates from across Colorado to connect with policymakers and advocate for the children and families we serve.

They met with Senator Michael Bennet and Rep. Jeff Crank , whose 5th Congressional District includes CPCD, along with fellow Colorado Head Start leaders and Lizbeth White, Director of the Office of Head Start.

These conversations help bring the experiences of CPCD families beyond Colorado Springs and into the national conversation about Head Start.

This week's Community Partner Spotlight highlights a partnership that has helped hundreds of young children and families in our community.

CPCD and Pikes Peak State College began our partnership in the fall of 2022, and we are excited to begin our fifth year of working together to support children and families.

Today, CPCD serves more than 100 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at Pikes Peak State College each day. Since the partnership began, we have had the privilege of serving more than 500 children.

Partnerships like this help make high-quality early childhood education accessible to more families while creating opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

Last week, CPCD had the pleasure of welcoming Mayor Yemi!

During his visit, Mayor Yemi met with CPCD CEO Stacie Datteri to learn more about CPCD’s mission and the impact of Head Start in our community. He also spent time with CPCD children, sharing a story, connecting with our youngest learners, and touring our main location to see our work in action.

We’re grateful for the time he spent learning about the children and families we serve—and for a few very special high-fives along the way!
