Summer is in full swing on the farm! Anyone else feel like they blinked and it was suddenly half-way over? June and July were a haze of leafy greens, root crops, herbs, berries, weeding, pruning, trellising, planting, and moreโ€ฆ And now itโ€™s onward into the abundance of late summer. Spring planted crops like kale and collards are suffering in the heat, but the heat loving peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes are just getting going! And itโ€™s hard to believe, but now is the time to plant fall crops- weโ€™re filling empty beds with cabbage, leafy greens, root crops, and more. Weโ€™re ever-grateful for the opportunity to engage with the land and community and for all of the support that makes this work possible.

Our 2025 Annual Impact Report is here.
This year tested us. We lost nearly $350,000 in anticipated federal funding. The region's only commercial composting facility shut its doors. And on top of it all, the largest cuts to SNAP in the program's history pushed 2.5 million people off food assistance nationwide โ€” right as grocery prices kept climbing.

And still, we showed up for each other.

In 2025, we recovered and distributed 539,952 lbs of fresh food โ€” our highest total ever, valued at over $2.6 million and providing an estimated 736,000 meals to 159,739 people across 44,549 households. We grew our small-scale pantry network from 1 location to 7. When a facility closure threatened our composting program, we built new local partnerships instead โ€” diverting 485,000lbs of food scraps from landfills and preventing 242 tons of CO2e emissions.

We stood with the campaign that preserved free school meals for every Colorado kid. And in October, we welcomed Dolores Huerta to the Hillside Hub.
None of this was inevitable. It happened because this community chose to build power together, in public, in a hard year.

๐ŸšŒ IT'S HAPPENING! Today marks the beginning of a transformation. Concrete Couch is officially starting the retrofit of our donated bus into a mobile food recovery vehicle for Food to Power.

We're building the infrastructure our community deserves. In Southeast Colorado Springs, where a significant portion of residents lack fresh food access and families have lost major food distribution sites in the past year, this vehicle becomes a symbol that we haven't forgotten our neighbors, and we're committed to serving them with dignity.

Over the next several weeks, Concrete Couch will be leading the interior and exterior work, and we're planning community participation sessions so folks from surrounding neighborhoods can help paint this bus and claim ownership of what we're building together.

Big thanks to RMSER for donating the bus, to Concrete Couch for their partnership and expertise, and to Feeding Colorado for believing in this work.

Have you ever wanted to be a farmer for the day? ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿง„

Or maybe you just want a fun way to support local farmers, get outside, and do something meaningful with your family, friends, or community.

The Southeast Food Coalition is hosting a **Volunteer Farm Day this Saturday at Fields of Care: Powered by Good Steward Farms**, and we would love for you to join us as we help harvest garlic!

Come as a family, come by yourself and make a few new friends, bring a date, bring your kids, or bring someone who needs a little fresh air and community. No farming experience needed just willing hands and a heart to help.

This is a beautiful way to support our local food system, connect with the people growing food in our community, and be part of something bigger.

Please RSVP if interested in joining
