Teacher Appreciation Week starts today 🍎

This week, we recognize and celebrate the early childhood teachers and providers who show up every day for Colorado’s youngest learners. You create safe, nurturing spaces where children grow, explore, and build the foundation for lifelong learning.

A note from our Executive Director, Dr. Lisa Roy:
"To our early childhood teachers and providers, thank you for the care, patience, and dedication you bring to your work every single day. The impact you have on children and families is lasting, and it does not go unnoticed. I am deeply grateful for all that you do."

We’ll be celebrating all week long, so stay tuned 💛

Big updates are ahead for Colorado’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS)!

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood is transitioning from the current Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) to a refreshed Quality Improvement System (QIS), focused on continuous improvement and better support for providers.

Key timeline:
• Transition period: May 17, 2026 – January 16, 2028
• Temporary pause on rating updates: May 17 – September 20, 2026
• Programs will maintain their current Level 3–5 ratings during this time

This shift is designed to reduce administrative burden and focus more on what matters most—quality improvement, professional development, and meaningful support for programs.

Providers, families, and early childhood professionals are invited to help shape the future of quality in Colorado through surveys and focus groups.

“It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things.”

The President recently suggested that child care is too complex for the U.S. to take on. But at The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), we know the truth: child care isn’t too difficult to handle; it simply hasn’t been prioritized.

In this blog, Erica Williamson Phillips, Executive Director, and Eboni Delaney, Director of Policy and Movement Building, break down why child care is core infrastructure that supports our entire economy and why we must start prioritizing children, families, and FCC educators.
