On August 23, 2025, Officer Nelson and Officer Rigby responded to a domestic violence incident. The incident, which occurred on what was meant to be the victim’s wedding anniversary, involved a history of abuse and culminated in criminal tampering charges against the suspect.

The victim, who in her own words had endured years of abuse, described the event as “an absolutely horrific experience,” yet credited Officer Nelson and Officer Rigby with helping her feel safe, heard, and empowered to finally walk away.

What sets this incident apart is that, weeks later, the victim wrote a heartfelt letter expressing her gratitude. In her words: “Not once did I ever feel devalued, rushed, or unimportant. And no offense, but that type of love, patience, and understanding coming from a man, much less a cop, was not something I ever expected or had been used to before…”

She emphasized that their empathy and professionalism stood in stark contrast to previous law enforcement interactions, ultimately giving her the strength to break free from an abusive relationship.

Officer Nelson and Officer Rigby’s ability to remain impartial, listen to all parties involved, and conduct a thorough and sensitive investigation was instrumental in building a strong case and ensuring the victim’s safety. Their actions reflect the highest ideals of the police profession and bring great credit to themselves and the department.

Thank you, Officers, for your integrity, empathy, and unwavering commitment to justice and victim advocacy.
