Water managers and users from all over Colorado met to talk about the often contentious nature of water and to look for possible solutions to longstanding, reoccurring and often vexing questions about the precious resource.

Cherokee Metro Water is having an election for Board Members. Mail in ballots are going out today. Look at the names and do research. Especially if you live in the older areas of Cherokee.

The past few years the board members have been from Pronghorn Meadows and Claremont Ranch. They don't care about the older areas. They upgraded their parks but not the parks in the older districts like Westridge Park.

They have allowed new developments in our district. Just look at all the new apartments, new homes, and businesses. The question is where is the water coming from!

We need to take care of our current residents and that is not happening.

We are recommending Dave Mattes and Jan Cederberg. They know and understand water. They are former board members who care about all Cherokee Water customers!

Last night, March 21, Cherokee Metro District had a special meeting to discuss the recall of two board members: Steve Hasbrouck and Linda Keleher (they did not attend the meeting). The other three board members: Dan Wall, Michelle Marie Kinney, and Tracey Fergerson were in attendance. The three board members denied they started the recall. They said a citizen had started it. Then why were those three board members out gathering signatures for the recall petitions?

When asked how much the recall would cost the answer was $100000 has been budgeted. When an audience member asked if Cherokee could send something out to let the customers know that recall is going on. Someone suggested Cherokee postcards. The cost was $4000. The board voted no.

Why couldn't the three board members wait till the 2025 May election? They already have a majority of the board votes. Also next May there will be four openings on the board.

The $100,000 could have been better spent to approve our water quality instead of paying for a recall.

Do Dan Wall, Michelle Marie Kinney, and Tracey Fergerson really care what is best for Cherokee Metro customers?

Expect your ballot soon!

Cherokee Metro Water District News has decided to endorse the following two candidates for the Cherokee Metro Election on May 2:

Jan Cederberg and Dave Mattes.

We have looked at all the candidates. If a candidate has been on the board before, we looked at what they voted for and against. For those who haven’t been on the board before, we checked their web pages. We have spoken with some of the candidates and checked social media including Next Door. We have also checked the campaign finances of all candidates.

Dave Mattes and Jan Cederberg are both former Cherokee boards members. They are long term residents that care about the future of this community. Their main concerns are water supply and water quality. When they were on the board there was enough water supply for the district, but will there be enough water with all the new construction? Water quality also seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Why? What can be done?
Dave and Jan are both experienced fighters for the rights of their constituents. They will ensure there is enough water for all of us residents, and that every drop is clean.

Cherokee Metro Water is a special district. A board member in a special district only makes a $100 a meeting. The question is why would you spend money for flyers and signs when a board member doesn’t make that much? Or is someone else paying for it?

Candidates in special districts are not required to file reports until their spending total exceeds $200.00. You can go here to see how much a candidate has spent in a certain time period:

Cherokee Water is having an election on May 2, 2023. Mail ballots have been sent. Absentee ballots are available by calling Cherokee at 719-597-5080. You can vote in person at Cherokee from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Funny Cherokee didn't mention the election in the important upcoming dates flyer they sent out last month in the bills.

Have you noticed that your Cherokee water bill has gone up? Did you receive anything in your bill explaining why? Could it be because the price of water is going up? Could it be because all the board members voted to give the employees a 10% raise? Could it be Cherokee wants to replace the old billboard out front with a new electronic one for $70,000? Or is there another reason?
