“Cohousing creates an environment where yard work, cooking and even child care become less of an individual burden. Work is divided among members based on each person’s strengths and skills. Gardens and green spaces are collaboratively tended. It’s easy to find someone in the spur of the moment when you need a ride to the doctor or want to go on a hike. Together, everyone’s share of the work is lessened while the happiness and balance of the entire community increases.”

Definitely one of my favorite things about living in cohousing!

One of the attractions of cohousing is the ability to live more sustainably, including walkability and more solar panels and EV chargers.

At this new, sustainable community in Bridport (in the UK), residents can purchase a home with a 25% share, which allows lower income individuals and families an opportunity to buy a home. Plus, the community is built on former farmland and intends to grow much of their own food and purchase other bulk produce and food staples to ensure food security. 👏

A unique (and colorful) apartment-style take on cohousing!

“The multigenerational residents all enter their 30 individual apartments through a common house that connects the street to the internal courtyard. This common house holds shared facilities on three floors. Then they filter, either via internal stairs or courtyard walkways, to their own homes. They may pass neighbors cooking in the main kitchen, jamming in the music room or gardening in the communal beds.”

Bay State Cohousing offers shared spaces for communal living, with some traditional design touches to help it fit in its suburban neighborhood.
