The Colorado Golf Hall of Fame honors the history of Colorado golf by recognizing not only the people who shaped it but the places at which history was made.

Tonight we honored such a place.

Denver’s Wellshire Golf Course—which began in 1926 as a private club with a Donald Ross-designed course but was purchased by the city in the wake of the Great Depression—was most notably the site of Ben Hogan’s 6th and final victory during his 1948 winning streak and where in 1959 Bill Wright prevailed in the US Public Links championship, becoming the first African American to win a national title.

Tonight Wellshire celebrated its 100th anniversary with a party featuring 1920s automobiles and live music from the classical, jazz, swing and rock eras.

To close the speech portion of the event,
Hall of Fame President Chris Nordling presented event co-chairs Diana Romero Campbell and Steph Thomas with a plaque commemorating the pivotal role Wellshire has played in the growth of golf in the city and the state.
Congratulations, Wellshire
