Brave Irene’s Hosts Spelling Bee at Ivywild Aug. 23 - SUNDAY!
Brave Irene’s, which promotes literacy through community events, is hosting a spelling bee at Ivywild Gym on Aug. 23. Doors open at 5 p.m., which events starting at 5:30. Suggested donation is $2 to watch, $6 to spell. There will be prizes, snacks, and music by Jeremy Boor.

We love Food to Power. This bus sounds like the best idea!

🚌 IT'S HAPPENING! Today marks the beginning of a transformation. Concrete Couch is officially starting the retrofit of our donated bus into a mobile food recovery vehicle for Food to Power.

We're building the infrastructure our community deserves. In Southeast Colorado Springs, where a significant portion of residents lack fresh food access and families have lost major food distribution sites in the past year, this vehicle becomes a symbol that we haven't forgotten our neighbors, and we're committed to serving them with dignity.

Over the next several weeks, Concrete Couch will be leading the interior and exterior work, and we're planning community participation sessions so folks from surrounding neighborhoods can help paint this bus and claim ownership of what we're building together.

Big thanks to RMSER for donating the bus, to Concrete Couch for their partnership and expertise, and to Feeding Colorado for believing in this work.

Ollie Glessner (they/them) has presented to Youth Leadership Training for several years and will be presenting this year about civic engagement and the LGBTQ+ community. They serve as the Advocacy Director at Inside Out Youth Services, which builds access, equity, and power with LGBTQIA2+ youth.

Ollie has the privilege of supporting their amazing team in making safer spaces throughout the Tava-Kaavi (Pikes Peak) region through trainings, strategic communications, local and statewide advocacy, and policy consultation. Their goal is to ensure every young person in the region knows IOYS is here for them, and every adult knows how to support the LGBTQIA2+ youth in their lives.

Ollie is a former journalist and longtime resident of Colorado Springs, with a passion for the q***r community. In their free time, Ollie likes to write, play video games, and spend time with their wife, nephew, and four beautiful cats.
