As comes to a close, we’re thinking of all Latino leaders in the fight for our civil, voting, and women’s rights. 🙌🏽

Jovita Idár, Willie Velásquez, Sylvia Mendez, Dr. Héctor Pérez García, and Dolores Huerta broke barriers and advocated for the rights of ALL Latinos across the country. These five leaders are just a few of the Latinos who have used their voices to uplift others, and continue to shape U.S. history for generations.

Here’s a reminder: When we stand up with our community against oppression, we can make systemic changes. Although we’ve come a long way, there’s still more work to be done. Today, families are being separated, federal agents are patrolling our communities, and our loved ones are being harassed on the street.

62 years ago today, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. became the youngest man to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rev. Dr. King’s advocacy for peace, justice, and equality for all Black Americans was fundamental in shaping the course of our country’s history and culture.

This , here’s a reminder that Indigenous voters across the country have POWER. If we didn’t, they would try to stop us from voting. Here’s the proof:

🪪 Strict voter ID laws that don’t allow tribal IDs at the polls
📃 Barriers to obtaining proof of citizenship documents
💬 Language inaccessibility
🛣️ Limited polling places in our communities

Despite these methods to make voting harder for our communities, we keep showing up to the polls to make our voices heard on the issues impacting us most — including tribal sovereignty, land rights, and cultural preservation.

This November, 4.7 million Indigenous voters can decide elections in states like Alaska, Arizona, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Nevada, and Wisconsin.
