Our current case is all about keeping the family together. Buggzy’s guardian, through no fault of his own found himself in a tough spot. He is having surgery and won’t be able to take care of Buggzy for 4 weeks. While other community services are taking care of Buggzy’s guardian’s needs, one of our training/boarding partners - House of Dog Training - is taking care of Buggzy. PIF is taking care of the cost, and in the spirit of paying it forward, HoD offers us a reduced rate. Hopefully these two can be back together soon!

Why we believe in the Power of the Pawsitive!

"In a training context, when a dog experiences something pleasurable (e.g. he smells or tastes food or engages in an activity which is really good fun), dopamine is released, thus creating a feel-good relationship between what he is experiencing and whatever you are training in that moment. (Contrast this with punitive training methods and the emotional responses they generate in dogs.) Furthermore, dopamine causes an individual to “want, desire, seek out, and search” and the dopamine system is “especially sensitive to ‘cues’ that a reward is coming (remember Ivan Pavlov?).” (Weinschenk, 2018)." - from Identifying Positive Reinforcers for the Individual by Anna Bradley, BARKS from the Guild, March 2020, pp.32-34. Please subscribe to read BARKS online and download your March issue (IT’S STILL FREE!). You can also order a print copy: https://barksfromtheguild.com/subscribe/

This is an excellent share! It talks about TAGteach, which helps trainers work with their human clients! But it also, in the beginning explains classical and operant conditioning, as well as the Skinner box! It really is an excellent listen!

This week, we bring you a 2018 episode exploring an innovative idea about how we learn. It will take us from a dolphin exhibit in Hawaii to a top teaching hospital in New Y...
