Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we pause to recognize, honor, and stand with the autism community. 🫂 For us at The De La Vega Foundation, this day is deeply personal.

Autism awareness is not just about acknowledging a diagnosis. It’s about seeing the beauty, dignity, individuality, and worth of every person on the spectrum. It’s about listening to families, supporting educators, advocating for inclusion, and helping create spaces where neurodivergent individuals are not just accommodated, but genuinely valued.

We have seen both the beauty and the challenges firsthand. The love, the resilience, the overlooked needs, and the importance of real support systems. And because of that, this mission will always be close to our hearts.

Today and every day, we stand for greater understanding, greater compassion, and a world that makes room for every mind to thrive.

Awareness matters, but so does acceptance, support, and action.

Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, and as we step into Autism Acceptance Month, we want to elevate the conversation. This month is about more than just awareness; it's a celebration of identity, capability, and the rich diversity of the human experience.

With the De La Vega Foundation, we believe that true progress lies in moving from awareness to acceptance and, ultimately, to appreciation. We celebrate the unique perspectives, deep passions, and incredible talents that individuals on the autism spectrum bring to our world. They are our colleagues, our innovators, our friends, and our family.

To be neurodivergent is to see the world through a different lens—one that can foster unparalleled focus, creativity, and problem-solving. It's time to champion these strengths and create environments where every person is empowered to thrive authentically.

This April, let's commit to listening to autistic voices, challenging our own perspectives, and building a more inclusive world that celebrates every individual for who they are.

But, don't take from me--father of three boys living with autism, listen to my eldest and my executive officer--Ethan Jonas (EJ) Gonzales.

What once lived in our family home in Colorado Springs found new purpose in Cavite City, Philippines.

Through a family-led donation effort, toys, books, and educational materials were shared with special education students at Manuel S. Rojas Elementary School, a place especially meaningful to us, as it is located in the city where our co-founder and CEO Pro-Tempe, Andresita Gonzales, grew up.

This initiative was deeply personal. It was a small way of giving back to a community that helped shape our family’s story, while supporting educators and students with resources that can continue to make a difference.

70 students were reached through this effort, and we are grateful to have played even a small part in pouring into their learning journey.

From our family to theirs, with love. This is Neurodiversity Rising.

A Moment to Reflect… and Prepare for What’s Next

As we move through 2026, The De La Vega Foundation is taking a strategic pause—a year to reflect, strengthen our partnerships, improve how we serve families, and prepare for an even bigger impact in 2027.

Looking back, we are incredibly grateful for what our community helped us build together.

In 2024, we launched our signature event Together Rising, introducing the foundation at a small church venue here in Colorado Springs. It was a humble start—but it was powerful. Food vendors, therapy providers, host home organizations, and families came together in one place to support one another.

That same year, we launched A Day in the Springs, hosting over 80 vendors, more than a dozen food trucks (many of which sold out!), and an unforgettable celebration of community. We saw K-Pop random dance performances, multicultural dance groups, and a closing concert featuring hip-hop and Christian rap that brought the house down. Most importantly, it was a day where families, children, and adults living with autism felt welcomed and celebrated.

In 2025, we continued building momentum.

Our Together Rising 2025 gathering welcomed community leaders and inspiring voices like COL Matthew Mapes, Commander of Evans Army Community Hospital, along with Dr. Mras and Dr. Sinclair, who shared encouragement and knowledge with families. We were honored to have providers and therapists like Tulip Araujo, Jami South, Christie Casimiro (Whole Kids Co), and Cecilia Madiedo (Alpaca Health) join us, along with an inspiring young educator, Ms. Lucy Guiberson. That evening was about one thing: hope for the future.

At A Day in the Springs 2025, our partnership with Loops and Lyrics showcased something truly special—kids on the autism spectrum performing their dance and musical talents. It was powerful. It was joyful. And it reminded all of us why this work matters. That event was even featured on two local news channels, helping spread the message of inclusion across Colorado Springs.

For families living with autism, life isn’t about FOMO.

It’s about showing up every day, adapting, learning, and loving our kids through every challenge and every victory.

If you know, you know.

And to the parents and families walking this journey—we see you.

This year, we are working behind the scenes to strengthen the foundation for the future. One exciting step is our partnership with Ascendity LLC, who is helping us re-engineer and relaunch our website so families can better access resources and support.

2026 is about planning.
2027 is about impact.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this mission so far. We’re just getting started.

Stay tuned. ❤️
