Blast from the Past! 🛋️ 💥

People often ask, “Is there a REAL Concrete Couch? What’s with the name?” YES! This is the original Concrete Couch, pictured here in 2003 with Steve Wood. Built with the community to beautify Manitou Springs and give kids a place to sit at the Manitou Skate Park on El Paso Blvd.

23 years later, it’s still there and looking beautiful! Go check it out! 🙌

Last week, Concrete Couch Community Integration Manager Thomas Pantoja and his son Hunter showed up BIG representing The Couch at the Rotary Club of North Colorado Springs weekly luncheon!

Thomas had the opportunity to make some great connections, share the story of Concrete Couch, The Coyote, and the amazing work happening across our community—and most importantly, open lines of communication for what comes next!

We’re already looking forward to welcoming Rotary members for follow-up tours of the Coyote and exploring how we can work together to keep building community through creative projects. More to come! 🙌

A special shoutout to the amazing Reese family, who came out about 45 strong to volunteer and help take care of the park! 🙌

Thank you to El Paso County Clerk & Recorder- Steve Schleiker, League of Women Voters, Regina Walter with the Educating Children of Color Conference, PRISM Community Collective, New Era Colorado, 3rd Eye 3rd Spaces, Andrew - our amazing cook today, Citizens Concerned Podcast ➡️Aaron AKA GOV, Miss Iva Bowers for her amazing presence, and everyone else who showed up, shared knowledge, cooked, connected, and helped build community.

And that food! 🌮🍉 The tacos, watermelon, and horchata were absolutely on fire!

What a special Colorado Day at The Sam Dunlap Wall of Inspiration💜

We were proud to recognize two extraordinary community leaders by installing their face tiles today:

✨ Jennifer Smith of One Body ENT, whose dedication and leadership continue to impact our community through her work in various non-profits, programs and schools. Her influence reaches into so many areas of this city and she continues to make great impact in the lives of countless members of the Colorado Springs community.

✨ Marty Schneider, retired principal of Community Prep School, whose leadership has touched the lives of countless young people throughout his career. Our city would be at a great loss without the impact Marty has made ✊

Colorado Governor Jared Polis also stopped by to say hello to the crew and thank everyone involved for creating this beautiful public art project on Colorado’s 150th anniversary as a state 🏔️.

Projects like this remind us that art has the power to tell our stories, honor those who came before us, and inspire future generations. Thank you to every volunteer, artist, donor, and community member who helped make today possible.

Join us on Saturday, August 8 from 9am-Noon for this incredible Second Saturday Sustainability Skill Share focused on Civic Sustainability 🗳️🇺🇸.

We will have activities for the entire family that will be fun and engaging. This is designed to inspire generations of people to vote and actively engage in sustaining our democracy.

At 10 AM we have a special round table discussion on election transparency and security with El Paso County clerk and recorder Steve Schleiker. 🤝
