Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help us clean our adopted waterway for ‘s Day of Service! We couldn’t have done it without your help 🫶🏻.
In just 2 hours, we were able to fill 10+ bags of trash 🗑️ picked up from our local adopted water way off of Union and Templeton Gap! Swipe to the end to see just how much litter we picked up 👀 ———>

Didn’t get a chance to help out? No problem! We will be partnering with on September 28th for another creek cleanup for this year’s creek week! You can find out more on the Office of Sustainability’s Mountain Lion Connect.

Creek cleanups are important to help keep our watershed free of pollutants 🚮, protecting habitats for wildlife 🦫🦝, and to keep the natural beauty of our limited resource staying beautiful 🏔️🌊.

Last week, the Office of Sustainability partnered with Reslife and Housing, Facilities Services and to bring back our "Ditch the Dumpster" Move-Out initiative. This initiative strives to take students' unwanted items and to donate them to community donation centers throughout Colorado Springs such as Arc, Good Will, Who Gives a Scrap, and even Clyde's Cupboard.

Throughout the week, we diverted 2,860 lbs of items from the landfill! Next year, we hope to bring that number up even more!

Thank you to all students who participated and all of the staff who helped put this together! A big shoutout to College Hunks who helped us transport items off campus, weigh them, and deliver them to donation centers, all for free! We greatly appreciate you helping to make our community both on and off campus more sustainable!

On February 13th, the Office of Sustainabity joined UCCS Radio at their "Break From the Grind" event and provided tote bags for students to decorate. Students seemed to really enjoy it! Be on the lookout for more events like this in the future. We have plenty more tote bags to decorate.

Additionally, we'll be releasing our program schedule for Earth Week in April soon!

Hey everybody. After a long hiatus, the Office of Sustainability's page is back up and running. Curious to know what we've been up to? We've been busy this semester! As of now, there are 5 student staff and 3 interns working at the Office. We also recently hired a new Green Action Fund Project Coordinator, Vee Garcia.

We have been working on revamping our Battery Recycling Program, collecting batteries on campus and salvaging the recyclable batteries. Find the black buckets around campus or check out our website for drop-off locations. sustain.uccs/edu/programs/zero-waste

We hosted the 2023 President's Sustainable Solutions Challenge where students were awarded up to $1,000 for pitching sustainable, innovative solutions to sustainability related issues on campus. We have already begun planning for next year's challenge, so be sure to keep an eye out if you are looking for a chance to win!

We have also begun crafting our report for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS). This will help us get a thorough idea of where sustainability stands on campus!

We are hard at work over here at the Sustainability Demonstration House. Come stop by or check out our monthly newsletter for more information!

Thanks to our 87 volunteers, we pulled 100+ bags of trash from the Templeton Gap Floodway during Creek Week, Colorado’s largest watershed-wide clean-up!

Our watershed starts in Palmer Lake and ends in Pueblo where it converges with the Arkansas River, then the Mississippi River and eventually the Gulf of Mexico.

But Creek Week doesn’t have to be celebrated once a year! Next time you’re on a walk or hike, bring a bag to pick up litter you find along the way. And join us in the spring for our next clean-up!
