We’re 11 days away from a brand new cast, so let’s meet the 2026 crew!
FYDC is proud to present: The Wemmicks! Created from Max Lucado’s “You Are Special.” Directed by Mimi McKinnis with music by Philip Hale. Choreographed by Mimi McKinnis and Abbie Van Horn.
✨Mimi McKinnis has served as the director of FYDC since its inception, founding its mission, vision, and core values in 2014. She has been teaching dance for more than 20 years, primarily in the disciplines of ballet, worship, pointe, and ballroom. Since assuming complete creative ownership of the company after the 2020 season, Ms. Mimi’s work has been regarded as examples of excellence in several editions of printed literature, and studied by professors of theology at Biola University. She started FYDC Missions in 2024, and has worked as an instructor, community outreach manager, and blog writer at Turning Pointe Dance for the last 14 years.
✨Philip Hale is a composer, conductor, and violinist based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A graduate of The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, he brings to his writing the perspective of a performer, educator, and conductor developed over more than three decades in music. His compositions have been performed by the Annapolis Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, where he also served as Assistant Conductor. Additional professional experience includes serving as Musical Director for Shadowland Theatre in New York and as a Music and Worship Director. Drawing on a lifelong love of choral, orchestral, and theatrical music, Mr. Hale writes works that seek to unite craftsmanship, beauty, and expressive depth.
✨Abbie Van Horn has been dancing since the age of 2 and grew up in the Turning Pointe Dance community. She danced featured roles in FYDC’s productions of "Women of Faith" and "Lionheart" (among other parts in advanced ensembles) before landing the lead role of Christian in 2022's "The Pilgrim’s Progress." At age 13, Ms. Abbie began working as a teacher’s assistant at Turning Pointe Dance. Three years later she became a studio intern, and after a year of student teaching, joined the TP staff and FYDC Leadership Team. She is currently studying Ministry Management at Colorado Christian University, has danced professionally with Messengerz Dance Company, and is the founder and owner of Adorn Dancewear.
✨Tonya Hayden serves as the Stage Manager for both Turning Pointe Dance performance companies, coming on staff with FYDC in 2019. She started dancing when she was 6 years old. In high school, she danced and competed on her high school drill team. During that time she competed at various places including the National Drill Team Competition in Orlando Florida. After high school, she continued to take more hip hop classes and soon after taught at various studios and gyms in Utah and Colorado, including the Fountain Arts Center, Northridge Dance Center, and the YMCA. She has been fortunate enough to attend conferences like the Chicago Association of Dance Masters, Dance Revolution, and trained in various cities such as Vegas, L.A., and NYC.
