PPPS was represented by 11 members this year at IAPS in Albuquerque! Congrats to Mary Sexton and Liz Amacher who both had paintings accepted into the open division of the prestigious IAPS exhibition. Mary was also recognized during the banquet with a Golden Mentor award for her many hours volunteering her design expertise over the last 2 years to make this year’s convention one of the best.

We learned from and painted alongside some of the best and made so many new pastel friends. Not many things can rival spending time with people who love creating and learning about art as much as we do!

Another fun adventure to Terry Ludwig Pastels, LLC is in the books! A special thanks to Geoff, Dena and staff for sharing how some of our favorite pastels are made and for showing us around their new space. Plan a trip to Littleton to see them if you get a chance. They have an impressive collection of pastel paintings too!

PPPS is looking forward to seeing them again at IAPS in Albuquerque!

At our April member meeting, Denver based artist Mitch Caster talked about his career as a news and courtroom artist and shared his insightful techniques for drawing portraits and figures. If you missed the meeting, check out his full talk, including a portrait demo of one of our PPPS members, now available on our YouTube channel!

Our next member meeting will be August 15. Leslie White, our Exhibit Co-Chair, will be doing a demo on how to paint water. Leslie is an excellent watercolor and pastel artist with work available at Commonwheel Artists Co-Op in Manitou Springs. Stop by and check it out!

A huge thank you to PPPS member Chad W Greene for a super informative and engaging demonstration on his process for painting with pastels on canvas. Chad presented at our February member meeting and his full talk and demo is now available on our YouTube channel.

Our next member meeting will be at 10:30am on April 11 at the East Library in Colorado Springs. Denver based artist Mitch Caster will give a talk and demo. Mitch was a courtroom artist for many years and paints all types of scenes, but figures are his forte. Join us!

At our February member meeting, we presented a lifetime achievement award to Ingrid Burnett. Ingrid is a longtime PPPS member, a very accomplished pastelist and a past PPPS president. Congratulations Ingrid!

Matt Atkinson Art gave a great demonstration about varnishing pastel paintings at our most recent member meeting. His process is really unique and the results are amazing. Thank you Matt!

Our next member meeting will take place at 10:30am on February 21st at the East Library in Colorado Springs. PPPS member Chad W Greene will be giving a demonstration on painting with pastels on canvas!

Join us for our first 2026 member meeting on Saturday, January 10th at 10:30am at the East Library. Our guest speaker will be Matt Atkinson. Matt will share his unique technique of varnishing pastel paintings for framing without glass. We look forward to seeing you there!

You never know who you might run in to at a PPPS show! Stop by and see our member show now through December 30 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. Original pastel paintings of Colorado landscapes and wildlife make wonderful holiday gifts!

We welcomed Liz Amacher for a still life demo at our November member meeting. Liz shared her techniques using a watercolor underpainting and tips for getting dramatic and warm lighting. Thank you Liz!
