Dance Alliance of the Pikes Peak Region D.A.P.P.R. seeks to promote movement as a
fundamental form of creative expression and
enrich community through dance appreciation, creation, and education.

Since 1977, DAPPR, formerly CSDT, has had the pleasure of presenting professional dance companies such as Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ballet de Montreal, Sydney Dance Company, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and over 100 more! In addition to presenting professional dance companies to residents of the Pikes Peak Region, DAPPR’s annual calendar has grown to include a local dance series, affordable master-classes, a scholarship competition, and an entertaining evenings out for adult dance enthusiasts.

to our Screendance Workshop and Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema Screening at Ent Center for the Arts!

This past Friday and Saturday were filled with creativity, curiosity, and community. Our screendance workshop invited participants to step into the world of dance filmmaking—experimenting with movement, camera work, and the magic that happens when choreography meets cinematography.

Saturday’s Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema screening brought together Colorado‑based and international films, celebrating dancers and filmmakers of all ages, abilities, and styles. The Q&A afterward sparked thoughtful conversation and highlighted the vibrant artistry thriving in our region.

We had such a wonderful time learning and working with the screendance medium and collaborating with SSFDC. Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, created, connected, and helped make the weekend unforgettable.

Don’t miss this special screening featuring Colorado-based films and artists alongside international films. This curated lineup highlights work representing the diverse dancers of the Front Range and beyond, of various ages, abilities, and styles.

The screening will run approximately 60 minutes with no intermission, followed by a 15–20 minute Q&A with local filmmakers — a chance to hear the stories behind the films and connect with the artists shaping our region’s creative landscape.

“Whiteout” gives resonance to the complexities of bi-racial relationships. Informed by her personal experiences as a white European who married a black African and as the mother of bi-racial children, Natasha Gilmore explores this issue with honesty and humour. Powerful, and touching, this film stimulates conversation about race and racism, even within a family unit, while celebrating human connections beyond racial difference.

The future is a fragile terrain, a delicate choreography of possibilities where every choice, every gesture, and every fleeting moment shapes the landscapes ahead. In this film, time is not only measured but felt – as a currency of life, as a weight we carry, and as a promise we hold. Through movement and image, “The Joy and Sorrow of Time” reflects on the duality of existence: the joy of what can be imagined and the sorrow of what inevitably slips away.

Somehow, it still smells the same way in the studio we hadn’t stepped in together for fifteen years. Tentative touching, shy lovers after a few name-changes, remembering more than we meant to: the strange dance of together and apart, death and birth, yesterday and now, dragon and darling, of having someone else feel the world inside of you, and step in.

See “Sheltering Gestures,” A film from Colombia, at our Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema Screening.

Sheltering Gestures is a videodance that traces the ritual and spiritual movements revived by a group of young dancers who witnessed the gradual disappearance of the traditional Danza de las Tabliteras. Determined to bring it back to life, they learned its rhythms and choreography from the four remaining elders who still carried the dance in their bodies. Once again, these gestures echo the movements that decades ago filled the community of San Antonio, Bolívar, with pride, vitality, and collective spirit.
