What does $3.40 a meal look like?

It is the most SNAP provides one adult each meal. Most households get less, and the average participant receives about $2.09.

At home, a rice and bean bowl runs about $1 a serving. One fast-food burrito is $2.99. A half rack of ribs at a local sit-down restaurant is $21.89.

Our neighbors make those numbers work with planning and creativity most of us rarely see.

"I was hungry and you gave me something to eat." (Matthew 25:35)

Matthew 25 doesn't describe charity from a distance. It describes a table where the one serving and the one being served both belong.

That's the picture behind every aisle at Crossfire: guests choosing their own groceries, volunteers who know names, and a store built on the belief that dignity isn't earned. It's recognized.

We don't see "those in need" and "those who help." We see neighbors. Most of us have been in a tight place at one time or another.

Thanksgiving takes a lot of hands.

Give-A-Gobble is more than what goes into the bags. It's also the people who show up to serve at Crossfire's holiday events. There are two ways to be part of it this year:

Give: turkeys or whole chickens, stuffing, gravy packets (no glass), frozen pies, or a financial gift. $25 provides a Thanksgiving meal for a family of three.

Serve: volunteer at a Crossfire holiday event.

Food donations are needed by November 20. Now's the time to put it on the calendar.

Give with purpose. Your gift helps sustain Crossfire Ministries' mission.

Downtown Colorado Springs just got a new grocery option — and it matters more than it might seem.

The Warehouse Urban Grocer opened this summer at 27 W. Cimarron St., giving downtown residents and smaller households a walkable source for fresh produce, meat, and pantry staples. (Source: Colorado Springs Gazette, "Downtown Colorado Springs gets another grocer," July 15, 2026)

It's a good sign — but plenty of neighborhoods across the city still don't have a grocery store within easy reach.

It's part of why access — not just availability — is at the center of what we do.

Meet Lois J. 💙

You'll find Lois behind the register at Crossfire Thrift, where she's volunteered as a cashier for the past few months. Ask her why, and she'll tell you:

"When I can give a little bit of me, a little bit of Jesus, it's worth it... Showing kindness to another human being is huge."

Every shift, Lois turns a checkout line into a welcome: a kind word, a prayer when someone needs one, and the kind of care that makes a store feel like community.
