Our Story

Leadership Pikes Peak is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1976 under the name Citizens’ Goals for the Colorado Springs Community. From the beginning the organization has provided community-focused leadership development programs that promote community engagement in the Pikes Peak region. Leadership Pikes Peak has more than 2,500 graduates who, as community trustees, work to make the Pikes Peak region a wonderful place to live, work and play. Leadership Pikes Peak alumni recognize their personal responsibility for taking action to improve our community. The Self: A Leadership Brand Effective community leadership requires the galvanization of the self within the spheres of attitude, characteristics, and competencies. For leadership to be actualized, the self must discover who it is and what it can do. We must understand our position in the world by exploring our most effective individual strengths and by discovering our deepest, most unique passions. The Community: A Network and A Support System One of the hallmarks of sustainable learning is the ability to integrate information by applying concepts and skills into our communities. In addition to the formal class schedule, each participant will impact their community by participating as a team member in the formulation and ex*****on of an Action Learning Project that provides a requested service to one of our area’s nonprofit organizations. The City: Colorado Springs and Its Intricacies A major component of Leadership Pikes Peak framework is aiding participants in gaining a broader, deeper knowledge of Colorado Springs and how it functions. Our curriculum is strategically designed to focus on current, important issues facing our community and the opportunity to learn from our city's most knowledgeable and dynamic leaders. We educate current and aspiring leaders about the community, its needs, and its resources; we connect those leaders with each other. We engage and connect through our Experience the Springs educational tour, each program, alumni association, and partner programs. Most of all, our alumni become active members our community - a Community Trustee. Our alumni serve on boards, committees, and give back through volunteer opportunities. We also strategically align ourselves with other organizations to improve the civic health of the Pikes Peak region.
