Ballet Folklórico de la Raza

Ballet Folklórico de la Raza Ballet Folklórico de la Raza is a non-profit organization founded by Connie Solano de Benavidez in 1994.

Based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, we are dedicated to bringing the beauty of Mexican folklórico dance and training to all. With little to no cost to the dancers or community, Ballet Folklórico de la Raza has been providing lessons and performances to the community all on a volunteer basis. Connie hand makes and mends the traditional garments for the various regions that are performed. You c

Our most notable performance was in 2013 where we were nominated and selected to represent the State of Colorado and performed at the 57th Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C because of our dedication and sharing of the beautiful Mexican culture.

Today was especially beautiful! We had the opportunity to show up for some of the seniors in our community. We are always grateful to spend time with Elders. We ended our afternoon at Chile, Colorado where we got to share space with Mariachi Diamante. We are truly grateful for their talent and willingness to support us.

Happy International Day of Dance! For decades, Connie Solano Benavidez has generously shared her love of music, culture and dance. Born in Boone, Colorado in 1938, Connie grew up in Avondale, just east of Pueblo. After marrying Simon Benavidez in 1958, the couple moved to Colorado Springs where they raised their five children: Cecilia, Simona, Gloria, Raymond and Angelica. Connie founded Ballet Folklórico de la Raza in 1994, and is affectionately called "Gramma" by generations of dancers who still wear the beautiful dresses she spent countless hours making. Remembering the saying her father frequently repeated, "He who gives, receives," Connie has given her time, talent and heart to her family, friends and dance group.

Continue celebrating dance today by visiting "Una Familia Grande: The Conejos Neighborhood Project" at the CSPM Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., or learn more about Ballet Folklorico at https://www.cspm.org/exhibits/conejos/
