A letter from our Executive Director, Kathy Turzi!
Dear Friend,
As summer begins, children across the country are looking forward to a new school year filled with possibilities. But for many of the Native American children and underserved families we serve, the approaching school year also brings worry and uncertainty.
How will they afford backpacks, notebooks, pencils, shoes, and other essentials their children need to succeed in school?
At One Nation Walking Together, we believe every child deserves to walk into the classroom feeling prepared, confident, and ready to learn.
That is why we are so excited about our annual School Supplies Drive!
Thanks to your incredible generosity last year, we shipped more than $25,000.00 worth of school supplies to children and families in the communities we serve. Hundreds of students began the school year with the tools they needed because caring people like YOU stepped forward.
Because of your past generosity, we are ready to reach even more children this year!
Your support reaches children living in reservation communities in a seven-state region as well as families here in Colorado. Both face significant economic challenges. Many of the communities we serve have limited access to resources, and families often travel long distances to obtain basic necessities. Your generosity helps ensure that children, regardless of where they live, begin the school year with everything they need to participate fully in the classroom.
Many families we serve are already struggling to afford food, rent, utilities, transportation, and other daily necessities. Purchasing school supplies often becomes an impossible burden. No parent should have to choose between putting food on the table and providing their child with the supplies needed for success.
Together we can ease that burden!
Your financial gift does much more than purchase school supplies. Donations also help cover the increasing cost of transporting semi-truck loads of essential items to the communities we serve. Along with school supplies, we continue to send food to fill hungry bellies, hygiene products to promote health, bedding to provide restful sleep, and other basic necessities that help children thrive.
Children learn best when their basic needs are met.
A child who has a warm bed, nutritious food, clean clothing, and supplies needed for school arrives in the classroom with confidence and the tools needed for success. A new backpack, a box of crayons, or a set of notebooks may seem small, but to a child they can mean belonging, pride, and the belief that their future matters. These simple items provide a strong foundation for learning and growth.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, dream, and succeed without the weight and worry of unmet basic needs standing in the way.
