Not every abusive behavior is loud. Some forms of abuse work by slowly changing how a person sees themselves, their choices, or what they believe will happen if they resist. Recognizing these patterns matters, even when there are no visible injuries. Understanding the difference between these abuses can help you know how to help others in these situations.

Domestic violence isn't always one identifiable incident. Control can be established gradually through rules, monitoring, isolation, punishment, threats, and manipulation. Individual behaviors may seem small when viewed alone. Looking at the larger pattern can tell a very different story.

DAF Day is tomorrow! Consider recommending a grant to TESSA through your donor-advised fund. Your support helps survivors and their children find safety, compassionate care, and a path forward.

Here’s how:
• Log in to your DAF account.
• Search for TESSA using EIN 84-0746803.
• Choose your gift amount and recommend a grant for general operating support, helping us respond where needs are greatest.

Every survivor matters. Your generosity helps us be here when they need us.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, help us cover our community in messages of support for survivors.

Throughout October, TESSA is inviting individuals, families, businesses, schools, organizations, and community groups to participate in Chalk the Walk for Survivors.

Grab some purple chalk, find a sidewalk or driveway, and fill it with messages that remind survivors they are seen, supported, and not alone. Whether you write one message or cover the whole sidewalk, every contribution helps create a visible show of community support.

We want to see your messages! Post your sidewalk art and make sure to tag TESSA of Colorado 🖍️

Consent begins with clear communication and respect for boundaries. If someone hesitates, pulls away, or becomes silent, pause and check in. Consent is a freely given, mutual agreement. Silence or a lack of resistance alone does not equal consent, and no one should feel pressured to agree. When you’re unsure, don’t assume.

Listen. Pay attention. Respect boundaries. Consent should be clear, mutual, and ongoing.
