As the Summer Camping Season Begins…

Here’s a kindly reminder to the homeowners of our Mountain Shadows community who might consider storing camping vehicles or trailers on their property during these summer months.

First, a quick reminder of the stated purpose of our Mountain Shadows Covenants: to protect the residential living environment and also to protect the desirability, attractiveness and value of our properties. Covenants run with the land and are legally binding on individual property owners. When you purchased your property, the Covenants for your individual Filing location were included in the Title Commitment documentation you received and agreed to prior to Closing.

With the exception of loading and unloading, prolonged exposed parking of camping vehicles or other trailers is not permitted based on the language found in the Covenants of ALL of our 35 Mountain Shadows individual subdivision Filings. Some subdivision Filings allow completely enclosed/out-of-sight storage on property; but the majority of Filings preclude overnight storage/parking of such vehicles on any street or within any lot.

Please be considerate of your other neighbors and help Mountain Shadows preserve our unique residential living environment for the benefit of all.

Free movie night at the park — Friday, July 10 🎬

Hey neighbor,

Mark your calendar: Movie Night in the Park is happening Friday, July 10 at Mountain Shadows Park and it's going to be a great evening!

Here's what we've got lined up:
🎵 7:30 pm — Music starts
🎬 8:15 pm — Movie trivia
🍿 8:30 pm — Showtime: Despicable Me (rated PG)

MSCA is providing the movie and free popcorn for everyone. Rizuto's will be on-site with their ice cream truck if you want to treat yourself. Restrooms will be available. All you need to bring are your lawn chairs, blankets, non-alcoholic beverages, and your family and neighbors.

This is exactly the kind of evening your Mountain Shadows Community Association exists to put on. And we want to do more of them.

Right now, only about 250 of our 2,000 households are MSCA members. Membership is just $25 per household per year — less than a pizza — and it's what funds events like this one and everything we're working to bring to the neighborhood in the future.

Help Keep a Mountain Shadows Tradition Alive: Join the Christmas in July Club

Every December, neighbors gather in Mountain Shadows Park to watch the Christmas tree light up, kids on shoulders, hot cocoa in hand, the whole neighborhood coming together. It's one of those moments that reminds us why we love living here.

That moment costs about $2,000 a year to make happen. And it only keeps happening because neighbors like you choose to support it.

To join the Christmas In July Club, donate a minimum of $100 once a year. Your contribution goes directly to the MSCA Christmas Tree Account, and any unused funds carry forward so the tradition stays funded for years to come.

As a member, you also get an invitation to the annual celebration where the club gathers to mark the occasion in style. There will be great company, good food, and the satisfaction of knowing you're part of what makes this neighborhood special.

This year's party will be on the evening of Thursday, July 23, 2026. Hosted by Nick & Nora Gledich and Eddie & Alison Hurt. Desserts, light bites, and drinks will be served.

Spots at the party are for members, so if you've been on the fence, now's the time.

Growing Vegetables 🥕🍀

Spring planting is here! 🌿 The rule of thumb is to buy small when buying vegetables, as plants need time to adjust to our climate and soil. Sometimes large containers work better than planting directly in our alkaline soil. Give your plants a little extra care and enjoy a successful harvest! 🥦🌶️

🗓 Dates: Friday, June 5 & Saturday, June 6
📍 Location: Throughout the Mountain Shadows neighborhood
💵 Admission: Free and open to the public

Dozens of households will be participating, so it’s a great opportunity to find unique items, great deals, and enjoy a walk through one of the area’s most scenic neighborhoods.

🗺 Sale Map: A community map of participating homes will be available in advance. To be included, sellers can email their address to [email protected] with “MSCA garage sale” in the subject line.

🌱 Frost Damage Alert – Don’t Panic! 🌱

A late spring frost can be discouraging, but most trees and shrubs are more resilient than they look.

Here’s the quick takeaway:
❄️ Damaged leaves and blooms don’t mean the plant is done. Many plants have backup buds ready to step in.
🌳 Healthy plants recover best. Proper watering, especially deep, infrequent soaking—is key right now.
🚫 Hold off on pruning and heavy fertilizing. Give your plant a few weeks to bounce back before trimming anything that’s truly dead.

A little patience goes a long way; your landscape should recover just fine! 🌿
