I had a few folks ask about worming a horse. Well, if it involves our little reactive Pinto Daisy, giving her worming medication takes 3 people.

The animals at Jem's Legacy Sanctuary don't usually come with a stack of medical records or much history. Daisy we know had a very difficult life and has had to fight off threats and is highly reactive. The doctor got kicked today and I got pulled tweaking my wrist elbow shoulder and neck.

We don't know what happened in Daisy's life that throws her into a fight or flight mode with zero threat. She obviously sees worming medication and a halter sometimes as a threat.

Connection over Control is our MO.

The doctor was so gentle but determined to get her the preventitive medication. Once done he removed her halter pet her and talked with her and she didn't dart off..we want her to know it's safe and okay.

We are very blessed and fortunate to have Dr. Lane Kihlstrom with Northwest Veterinary who also makes house calls for birds cats and dogs!! Yup.

Typically twice a year horses and donkeys receive worm and parasite medication as a prevention. They get their teeth done annually and feet every 6 to 8 weeks. The doctor does the worming and teeth and a Farrier the feet. A Farrier is a person who specializes in hoofs, shoeing, cleaning, correcting issues trimming.

Never a dull day caring for the animals. It's our purpose at Jem's Legacy Sanctuary to ensure all the animals at the Sanctuary are cared for and spoiled rotten!!!

Sugar Update. Doc was out today checking on everyone. Donkeys and Horses de-worming, following up on rashes, bites and p**p goodness.

Always an adventure and always greatful..

We are back on track with Sugar and her nutrition regiment. Trying to put 500 to 600lbs on her frame. Slowly and responsibly as we cannot rush her progress and are just fine working on her terms.

Am I excited over p**p? Damn Right I am.

Checking innon Sugar she seems pretty much back to herself and she had 3 normal p**ps today.

The doctor said only very light food tonight so 1 flake of Teff and a half scoop of Rice Bran mixed in Omega Oils.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes for Sugar and suggestions. Doctor is back out Thursday.

For me, not my usual 15 hr day given no sleep last night. Making rounds then hitting the hay, no pun 👊💥

Update on Sugar.

Doctor Came out urgently and diagnosed Sugar as having Gas Colic.

Sugar is not permitted to have any food except a little bit of hay today. She is well hydrated, all vitals stable just in a lot of discomfort and pain.

Sugar seems to be responding to the medications well and is inside the stable out of the Sun.

When working and caring for animals big and small we have these moments.. They can be stressful but it's going to happen and it's going to happen again.

Difference is, now I am better prepared and have experience and knowledge which will allow me to better serve the animals 🙏

Ya know, I don't get a whole lota time to do much but care for the animals working 15hr days and all.

So, when I do get some time what do I do?? Depends really.

I have been accused of living a lavish life.. Well, if shelving horse s**t, cat s**t, donkey, bunny and bird s**t is lavish I am guilty as charged by gollie.

Left my clothes in Deadwood.. Nope that's not a song although perhaps it should be. I don't have many clothes and I usually wear the same thing anyway.. I mean what's the attire for shelving s**t? I think I am dressed for the occasion most days.

AnyHooooo had lunch and continuing on with my Sunday travels.

People ask me, hey Kristie what are your days like? Work Work Work with the occasional motorcycle ride 😎

Everyday is a blessing and I am just so damn blessed to be able to spend my time with all the sanctuary animals and actually have a little time for myself.

Taking the Team Harley-Davidson out for a spin as I didn't get enough riding in while at Sturgis.

Barry you better be working on that endorcement!!!
