Volunteers for Community

Enriching lives and celebrating nature in southern Colorado. Welcome to our page! Some of us volunteer a few hours a year, and some a few hours a week.

We're a bunch of friendly Southern Colorado folks of all ages, kids to seniors, who enjoy finding new ways to help out in our communities. We have more than 20 projects in three counties. One of them is sure to fit you! We help in elementary school classrooms, collect and distribute food, clean highways, make gifts for vets and others, recycle cardboard, and work in the community gardens we sponsor. We have a huge gift-giving party every Christmas - this year we gave bags of presents to 76 Southern Colorado kids. Our dues are $5 and five hours of volunteering a year. You'll find more about us, and a more complete list of our doings, on our website, www.volunteersforcommunity.org Also, please consider a tax-deductible charitable contribution to Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community. We have no administrative overhead, since we are all volunteers! Your contribution goes directly into the communities we serve.

Free and open to everyone at the Peaks to Prairie Community Center (or the Susan Kalman Community Center otherwise known as the VFC in Colorado City.

You do not need to attend the SRDA luncheon to attend the Lunch and Learn. Just come on over at about - 11:50 a.m.

If you do plan to attend the SRDA luncheon, please make sure you call SRDA by 9 a.m. to reserve your lunch. Their number is (719) 534-0100.

Stella's Open Food Pantry will be this coming Saturday, Oct 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Susan Kalman Peaks to Prairie Community Center (otherwise known as the VFC).

Please bring a box if you have one; otherwise, there are boxes at the VFC.

If you would like to volunteer your time for the pantry endeavors (Stella's Open Pantry, Mobile Market or the food drive), please call or text Connie R. at (719) 489-3110. Connie rotates the Volunteer Extraordinaires throughout the different food pantry events.

The pantries at the VFC are designed to meet the needs of the Colorado City/Rye areas. If you do not live in these areas, please check out the link below and enter your zip code to find a food pantry in your local area with Southern Colorado Care and Share.
