SWGC is growing and making an impact on Michigan DeMolay. 5 of our young men experienced this Demolay Degree from the state chapter team. Watch us grow this year. SWGC whole DeMolay Chapter attended the 1926 DeMolay Degree ar Detroit Masonic Temple yesterday and saw and learned the potential DeMolay holds for them. Great job by the young men and their parents and family.

Great business type meeting today. 5 of our 6 DeMolays were able to attend. Dad Kyle lead them thru a reading of some of the ritual so that hopefully they start to have a feel for the different offices and maybe in a couple months they will want to have an election. Talked about the next Fun Meeting in two weeks.
Next week we hope to have most of our members in Detroit for the 1926 DeMolay Degree.
Hopefully I also am getting them energized with a Member Recruiting Contest. Watch us grow!

What a great group of young men Southwest Gold Coast DeMolay has as the core to grow upon. Very polite and want to make the Chapter grow. It may be hard to get all of them to a meeting but they don't miss one without good cause. I'm so proud of them and it makes all the hard work starting, organizing, and recruiting worthwhile for this old Dad.

Sunday. April 12. 5pm at Coloma Lodge will be a business meeting for our Demolays. Their dress should be white shirts and ties. Parents are welcome to attend all meetings.
The next Sunday will be a FUN meeting with the Demolays deciding what they would like to do.
Friends and others interested in DeMolay are welcome to any FUN meeting to learn more about DeMolay.
Snacks, pizza and refreshments at both.

It was a FUN meeting for the SWGC DeMolays today. They brought their video systems and we had 2 projectors and 2 tvs going all at once. A couple brought friends who we hope will become interested to join. A good time was had!

We are starting to get the DeMolay ball rolling! 5 of our 7 DeMolays could make one of our first official Chapter meetings. They decided they liked the idea of the DeMolay cloaks!
We inherited a bunch of them from a Chapter that closed years ago so we should have plenty as we grow.

SWGC meeting on Sunday Jan 25th is CANCELLED due to expected bitter cold, high winds and snow. No need for anyone to travel in this dangerous weather being predicted.

SWGC was lucky enough to get this letter to the editor published in the Tri-City Record, Herald Palladium, and Leader all in the same week. Thank you to all of them for supporting young men.

Dear Editor,

There is a “new” organization and fun activity for young men in southwest Michigan--- DeMolay! DeMolay was popular in Coloma almost 50 years ago, but like many activities it gradually died out as society changed after the 1970s. However, our revived Southwest Gold Coast Chapter of DeMolay International is growing and thriving. In November we doubled our size.

Parents, grandparents, and guardians looking to improve and enrich the life of their young man should consider DeMolay. It stresses and teaches what many consider “old time” values which are the key virtues of DeMolay--- family, patriotism, courtesy, comradeship, fidelity, respect and reverence, and cleanness of living.

DeMolays plan and organize their own activities and events and lead their Chapter under the supervision of adult Advisors who must pass a rigorous Youth Safety training program and criminal background check.

DeMolay is open to any young man 12 to 21 years of age with the only requirement being that he believes in a deity. DeMolay favors no specific religion and is not sponsored by any religious organization. It stresses high moral and spiritual values, ethical behavior, leadership and character development and will not tolerate bullying, unsportsmanlike conduct, or other behaviors which might hurt its members.

For younger boys, 9 through 11, DeMolay offers what is called Squires. Squires can enjoy most DeMolay activities. Because we recognize the differences in age and maturity, we let them lead their own Manors while the DeMolays lead their own Chapters.

SWGC DeMolay is actively seeking members in the southwest Michigan area. We are well funded and able to provide many unique experiences for our members. Parents and others concerned or worried about the dangers of social media, teen loneliness and other societal issues affecting young men should contact us about this great alternative activity.
