Came out to Middlefork for a nice rainy evening hunt. Got out to a spot & had two smaller cars but neither of them had hunting stickers, so I just figured they were out on the trails. Walk in about a mile and get waved at by a guy ground hunting.. It's not only illegal, it also lets other hunters your hunting that area so I would of just found another location..... Rant over!

Now that I've gotten a bit more comfortable with saddle hunting I can honestly say I enjoy it more than my climber! It definitely takes some time getting used to but in my opinion it's a lot safer than the climber being your never not attached to the tree. Plus I'm not carrying that uncomfortable thing around which really opened the doors for how far I can go & what tree I can climb.

Another successful hunt in the books! I didn't really have the turn out I expected but that's just how it goes, we still had a really good time & ate some good pulled pork. I was lucky enough to snag a 4 pointer shortly before sunset then myself & two other veterans got him gutted & on ice... Then we hung out by a super hot campfire and had great conversations... Can't ask for much more!

Get your ass in the woods, ya can't kill them from the couch!

October 1st is opening day for deer & I hope all of you are as excited as I am! Make sure you get your equipment & license ready before hand. Do some practicing with your bow & get them restrung if necessary!
Since I wasn't sure how much time I'd get to hunt this season I decided to go big with the group. A few veterans & I talked about hosting a deer camp October 10th. Let's spend the weekend hunting, camping & hanging out with other like minded veterans! Of course my wife will be making us some delicious food... probably chilli for the evening & "sub" sandwiches available for us to grab during the day when we get hungry. The food is my wife's part in all this so I'm not 100% sure what she plans on doing but if you've been to an event before you know that woman can cook! I'll update the menu in the comments closer to the date. People think I'm crazy but little Debbie's are trash & I won't eat em haha.

I'll rent a block of campsites at Middlefork for Friday & Saturday so we're all together. I believe it's two cars/tents per spot so should be plenty of room. The group will provide food, non alcoholic drinks & the campsites but I'll definitely be having a few if I fill my tag... probably more than a few if I don't, kidding, kinda haha. The hunting & camping gear is on you. Make sure you have a valid hunting license & deer tags as well.

This is gonna be my first time doing this so please don't expect anything crazy. If you know you are going to attend let me know! This is a free event due to the wonderful donations we have received & I'm gonna plan to feed around 8-10 veterans & would hate to waste funds I could use for future events. I'm excited to say August 1st is opening day for Squirrel hunting! We are almost back in the woods & I couldn't be happier about it, we still have some funds left from the donation we received from the Sons of the American Legion Post 203 Georgetown, IL 61846 & will get to planning an activity. Some folks say they don't hunt squirrels until the first frost but I'm too excited to wait.

Hope everyone is doing well, I started a new job so I'm a bit busy till I get laid off in the fall but that works out because we'll be back to hunting which is exactly what this group is about! If you need anything or you're hurting please reach out! Remember to get your hunting license squared away before the season!

Let's get together for a few hours & try to find some antlers! Might try and fish a bit too. In the spirit of March my wife is planning on making us a traditional Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage with red potatoes! Hope to meet more of my local veterans.
