Day 2 of the IBT Convention is in the books and the big news out of Las Vegas is the overwhelming re-election of Sean O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman to lead our great Union as General President and Secretary-Treasurer respectively.

Local 391’s elected delegates cast all of their votes for O’Brien and Zuckerman on behalf of Local 391 members, according to President Rick Armstrong.

Local 391’s elected delegates to the IBT Convention spent yesterday conducting convention business (reviewing reports, debating motions — including Recording Secretary Rachel Wells’ — participating in floor discussions and debates, and casting votes on issues that will help shape the future of our Union.

The convention also provided an opportunity for Local 391 delegates to meet with IBT General President Sean O’Brien and discuss issues important to Local 391 members.

“Representing our members on the convention floor and bringing their voices directly to Union leadership is an important responsibility, and Local 391 was proud to be part of the process,” said Local 391 President Rick Armstrong.

The Union is strongest when we are out where the members are.

This week, Latarsha Jackson spent time in Greenville meeting UPS employees, answering questions, signing up new members, and listening to the concerns that matter most to the people doing the work every day.

No appointments. No special meetings. Just showing up, having conversations, and making sure members know their union is accessible.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, grabbed a donut, filled out a card, and took a few minutes to talk with her.

This is how relationships are built. This is how our union grows.

Let’s get this done, Congress.

Workers have the right to a collective bargaining agreement after they vote to form their union. Current labor law is full of loopholes that employers exploit to drag out negotiations for years. On average, American workers are forced to wait 458 days to secure a first union contract.

Teamsters and millions of workers across the country are done waiting. Real reform is needed now. Last month, by building a bipartisan coalition, the Teamsters Union worked with 218 members of Congress to sign a discharge petition, bypassing House leadership to bring the Faster Labor Contracts Act to the floor for a vote.
