Sunday Productivity Pro Tip: Look for opportunity

In this time of quarantines and social distancing you may find yourself worried about all the things you won’t be able to get done. It’s true, some tasks may pile up while you are away from the office.

But, instead of dwelling on that, concentrate on using this time as an opportunity to engage in self-care.

Maybe extra time at home will give you a chance to catch up on home chores, give you a chance to really start that diet or exercise regimen you’ve been putting off, or let you bond with your family in a way you normally cannot.

If you embrace the situation, rather than fight against it, you will return to work in a better place when that time comes and be able to catch up quickly.

Sunday Productivity Pro Tip: Set a Timer. If you often find yourself starting lots of tasks but finishing few, set a timer to go off at regular intervals (e.g. every 15 minutes). When the timer goes off, it’s your reminder to check and make sure you’re doing what you intended and that you haven’t become distracted with other tasks. If you did get distracted, don’t worry, just use the alarm as an opportunity to re-focus and complete your goals.

Sunday Productivity Pro Tip: Close tabs on your computer that don’t pertain to your immediate task-at-hand. Your brain will take in and process information in its visual field whether you’re concentrating on it or not. When you remove the visual distractions, your brain has more energy to use on what’s important.

Productivity Pro tip: If you tend to start one project and end up finding yourself working on something else, set an egg timer or other alarm for 15 minute intervals...when it goes off, it’s your reminder to check and make sure that you’re working on the intended project. If you find that you’ve drifted to something else, it’s your reminder to go back to what you wanted to be doing.
