The Beechwood community has lost a truly special neighbor and friend. Dana Cushing passed away this week, and whether you've lived here for one year or thirty, whether you're young or old, chances are you have at least one cherished memory of Mr. Cushing.

Perhaps you attended one of his beloved Easter egg hunts after he personally delivered a flyer to your home to make sure you knew you were welcome. Maybe you visited his property at Christmastime to admire the lights, explore the treehouse, and wander through the barn filled with cookies and treasure boxes. Or maybe your favorite memory is simply of him stopping to chat whenever he saw you in the neighborhood.

Mr. Cushing embodied the very best of what it means to be a neighbor. Through his generosity, warmth, and genuine kindness, he brought people together and created lasting memories for so many families. His absence will be deeply felt throughout Beechwood, but his spirit will live on in the traditions he created, the friendships he fostered, and the countless lives he touched.

Dana showed us what it truly means to be a neighbor. His generosity, warmth, and unwavering kindness brought people together and created traditions that will live on in the hearts of so many Beechwood families.

Pictured here is Dana doing what he loved, chatting with neighbors in his barn during the light tour he hosted for BNA members this past December. We will always remember the magic of that night at his gorgeous Beechwood Street home.

Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Thank you, Dana, for making Beechwood a better place and for giving so many of us memories we'll cherish forever.

You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. 🕊️

🏆The Beechwood Community Service Award was created to recognize individuals whose generosity, volunteerism, and dedication enrich Beechwood and strengthen the connections that make this such a special place to call home.

It is only fitting that our inaugural recipient is Michelle Loughlin! We were honored to present this award to her at the Summer Picnic, alongside her children and community members that admire her so much.

A longtime Beechwood resident and devoted mother of three, Michelle has spent years quietly making our neighborhood a better place for families. From helping create the neighborhood playground when the town relocated the original one, to organizing Beechwood’s beloved annual Egg Hunt for more than 15 years, Michelle has always led with generosity, kindness, and a passion for bringing people together. Her efforts have created lasting memories for generations of Beechwood families and helped foster the strong sense of community we all cherish.

Please join us in congratulating Michelle and thanking her for her incredible contributions to Beechwood! 🤍

Come on down to Beechwood ballpark today at 4:30pm! Grab dinner and ice cream while you listen to music and talk to neighbors. Plenty of entertainment for kids, including a bike parade. See you then!

The weather looks beautiful for this Sunday's Summer Picnic! We will have Mom-On-The-Go food truck, Nona's ice cream, live music by Jim Armstrong, a bounce house and games! We will be presenting the first Beechwood Community Service Award at 5:30pm to Michelle Loughlin. We will have some tables and chairs, but consider bringing a lawn chair or blanket if you are able. Tell your friends and family and we will see you this Sunday for a good time!

🇺🇸 Beechwood History Spotlight

Did you know that Beechwood is home to the final resting place of a participant in one of the most pivotal events in American history?!
Jared Joy, a 24-year-old bricklayer born in Hingham, later lived with his family on Beechwood Street in Cohasset. He was among a regiment of Cohasset men who played an integral role in the Boston Tea Party, helping spark the movement that led to the American Revolution.
Jared passed away in 1792 and is buried in Beechwood Cemetery—a lasting reminder that our small neighborhood has deep roots in our nation’s history.

Cohasset native James Stoddard was a participant in the Boston Tea Party. Read a little about his role in this pivotal time in history!

in 1756, Boston Tea Party Participant James Stoddard was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts. He would join fellow "Sons of Cohasset" Jared Joy and Abraham Tower in the act of destroying 340 chests of East India Company tea on the evening of December 16, 1773. The next morning, much to his dismay, Stoddard discovered little bits of tea stuck to his clothing and the floor of his boarding house, and feared his participation might be uncovered. Following the Destruction of the Tea, Stoddard led the capture of a British vessel in March of 1776 just days after the evacuation of Boston. This ship was loaded with rum and was brought into Cohasset Harbor and sold.

In 2019, we were honored to work with the community of Cohasset to place commemorative markers at the graves of all 3 "Sons of Cohasset".
