🗓️On Monday night, Jessica — a friend and volunteer with Space Coast Feline Network — alerted Rachel and Johnathan about a cat who was lost, confused, and crying for help near Max Brewer Bridge. With no residential areas anywhere nearby, we can only imagine how frightened and disoriented she must have been.
🫡The team immediately headed to the area where kitty was spotted. It took some time to finally locate her, but once they did, every effort was made to get her to safety.
🪤Numerous traps were set and filled with enticing food, but she was simply too scared to go near them. After hours of waiting and hoping, the difficult decision was made to call it for the night.
⛅️The next morning, the team searched the area again on foot, but there was no sign of her.
🌘Tuesday night, they returned even more determined and prepared. Emotions were running high — anxiety, hope, fear, and moments of helplessness — all while fighting off swarms of mosquitoes and worrying about how dangerously close she was to the road.
🏆Then finally, after another long night, our president was able to successfully net her. Tears of relief were shed all around.
🍞That’s also how she got the name “Burnt Toast.” There’s a saying called the “Burnt Toast Theory” — the idea that sometimes life forces delays, detours, or difficult moments on us because they ultimately protect us from something worse and lead us somewhere safer. Being stranded so close to the road, with almost no chance of survival, Burnt Toast’s story felt like a reminder of that. Somehow, despite everything, he made it to the people who were meant to save her.
❤️🩹Now she is safe, loved, and has a bright future ahead of her. Once she arrived at her foster home, she regurgitated twigs and grass, further confirming just how hungry and desperate she had been, eating whatever she could just to survive.
😪This rescue is only a glimpse into the work that happens behind the scenes — the emotional roller coaster, the sleepless nights, the fear, the hope, and the unwavering determination to save a life.
🤎 Jessica was the catalyst for spotting her and helping us get her to safety, and we are so grateful.
🙏We may never know how Burnt Toast ended up out there alone, scared, starving, and fighting to survive. But what we do know is that from this moment forward, she will only know warmth, love, safety, and care. We will do everything in our power to ensure that.
✊Thank you to every single person who supports us and walks this journey alongside us. Always try to be the change you want to see in the world.
