DEAR SWEET EATS SUPPORTERS,
Most of us know someone whose life has been touched by cancer. None of us imagines hearing that word spoken about our own child.
We did. When our son, Hendrix, was two years old, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of acute myeloid leukemia. Through rounds of intensive chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, his spirit never wavered. He donated his own toys to the treasure box in the outpatient clinic. He invited people over to see his "big family bed" and join his glowstick dance parties. He made everyone around him smile more, laugh more, give more, and love more.
On April 16, 2013, at three years old, Hendrix passed away at home, surrounded by love. His generosity toward others is the reason Sweet Eats exists.
Caring for a seriously ill child is exhausting in every sense: emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially. Hospital stays can be deeply isolating. In March 2014, we opened the Sweet Eats kitchen in the oncology unit at Valley Children's Hospital. It gives families free food, drinks, and warm meals, along with support from other parents walking the same road, so they can focus their energy on caring for their children. Today, the kitchen serves approximately 35 families each week, and the monthly cost of keeping it stocked has tripled since we opened.
On Saturday, October 10, we are hosting the Sweet Eats Gala to keep that kitchen stocked. Our goal is to sell 75 more tickets by Saturday, September 26. Kids invited and no babysitter needed.
HERE IS WHAT WE ARE ASKING: PLEASE BUY 2 TICKETS.
If you cannot attend, please buy two anyway and give them to someone who can: your parents, close friends, or anyone who cares about local children with cancer and their families. Or you can donate them back and we will send cancer families.
