🪨☀️ A Look Back at Our Club Picnic!

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since we gathered together for our annual club picnic! 🥪🪨

From good food and great conversations to spending time with fellow rockhounds, it was a wonderful opportunity to step away from the shop and simply enjoy being together as a club.

One of the best parts of the Flint Rock & Gem Club is the community we’ve built over the years. Whether we're working on a lapidary project, searching for the perfect rock, learning something new, or enjoying a picnic together, there’s always a reason to come together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the picnic such a fun day! 💎❤️

🪨✨ Before & After: Debbie’s Petoskey Stones!

Club member Debbie is showing us the transformation of her Petoskey stones, from their natural, unpolished state to beautifully polished pieces! 🌊🪨

Petoskey stones are Michigan’s state stone, and polishing them reveals the distinctive fossilized coral patterns that can be difficult to see on the surface of a rough stone.

It’s amazing what a little time, patience, and lapidary work can reveal! 💎✨
Thank you, Debbie, for sharing your before-and-after Petoskey stones with us!

Which side do you prefer: rough or polished? 👇

🪨💙 Michigan Rock of the Week: Leland Blue!

If you’ve ever walked the shores near Leland, Michigan, you may have come across one of these beautiful blue stones!

Leland Blue is a type of slag glass, created as a byproduct of the iron-smelting industry in the 1800s. Over time, pieces of this glass made their way into the surrounding landscape and along the shoreline, where they can now be found by rockhounds and beachcombers. 🌊🪨

One of the coolest things about Leland Blue is that no two pieces are exactly alike. The colors can range from soft blue and turquoise to deeper shades, and each piece has its own shape, texture, and story.

💙 A little Michigan history
🌊 A Great Lakes treasure
🪨 A favorite among collectors

Have you ever found a piece of Leland Blue?

Tell us where your favorite Michigan rock finds have come from! 👇
