WM Walter Besant passes away in 1901. English novelist and philanthropist, whose best work describing social evils in Londonโs East End helped set in motion movements to aid the poor. Besant joined Lodge of Harmony in Mauritius. After returning to England, he affiliated with Marquis of Dalhousie Lodge where he became it's Worshipful Master in 1873. He was also one of the founders of the first Masonic research lodge Quatuor Coronati Lodge No 2076. In 1886 he became Quatuor Coronati Lodge's first treasurer.
