We're excited to highlight our partners at Mendocino County Fire Safe Council and their recent efforts to connect future contractors with the knowledge and skills needed to build safer, more resilient communities.

Through a partnership with Mendocino County Office of Education, North Coast Builders Exchange, OBM Construction and NCO Lake County Home Hardening Program, students and future construction professionals are learning about fire-resilient construction practices that can help reduce wildfire risk and better protect homes.

These types of partnerships are critical to growing the local workforce while strengthening our communities' ability to withstand wildfire.

Sometimes fire mitigation means tackling things you wouldn’t immediately think about - like a bird nest in your gutter! 🪺🏡

Don’t worry, no birds were harmed while making this home a little safer. A clean gutter helps reduce fire risk and keeps homes better protected during wildfire season. Small actions can make a big difference!

A huge thank you to our AAA Lakeport Branch team for donating several dozen hygiene and pet care bags to support our vulnerable community members.

The impact these thoughtfully assembled bags have already made in such a short time has been incredible. As homelessness continues to rise, access to basic essentials like hygiene supplies, toothbrushes, and food for beloved pets provides comfort, dignity, and care when it’s needed most.

We are so grateful for the compassion and generosity behind this donation. Thank you for helping make a meaningful difference in our community and for being such valued community partners.

Last week was a great opportunity to share our Lake County Home Hardening Program with agencies and officials who are as passionate as we are about home hardening. It’s encouraging to see so many partners coming together to talk about ways we can help communities better protect their homes from wildfire, build resilience, and improve access to insurance. Huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped move these important conversations forward!

Have you checked out Hulu’s new series, “Designed to Last”? It asks architects and engineers to take on a question the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) focuses on everyday - "What does it take to build to withstand severe weather and wildfire?"

The big picture: Survivability comes down to the choices we make long before disaster strikes. Good to see that story being told in a new, entertaining way.

Last week our Program Manager, Deanna Fernweh sat alongside State Fire Marshal, Daniel Berlant and State Recovery Deputy Directory, Robyn Fennig and other great partners to testify before the California State Assembly Budget Subcommittee about CWMP, our local Lake County Home Hardening Program and the critical role hardening has in protecting homes and communities.

It was such an honor to represent the unpresedented work this program is doing for Lake County and to learn about other profound programs happening throughout the state.

What a big win for a safer Lake County!! Great job partners!
