The members of the Chouteau Garden Club were delighted to be out in the community this week at the Summer Reading Program Kickoff hosted by Pryor Public Library. Alongside a variety of local organizations, public services, and community partners, we enjoyed helping create an afternoon of family-friendly fun for children and families.

Club members shared information about our organization, distributed seed packets to encourage a love of gardening, and hosted a hands-on craft activity where young participants painted rocks that will become a colorful "book worm" display in front of the library. The project combines creativity, literacy, and community spirit, while giving children a lasting reminder of the joy of reading.

We extend our thanks to the library staff and all participating organizations for making this event such a wonderful success. It is always a pleasure to support programs that bring our community together and inspire the next generation of readers, gardeners, and lifelong learners. 📚🌱🐛💚

Meet our Vice President Nora Courtney. 💐

As President of Oklahoma Garden Clubs, it’s my pleasure to introduce Nora Courtney, Vice President of the Chouteau Garden Club and our Northeast District Awards Chairman. With 15 years of service, she has contributed to community beautification and improvement projects with skill and heart, including meaningful work caring for local cemetery.

She also serves on the library board and supports other nonprofits. She brings that same dedication to life on her farm, a place that reflects her care, her eye for beauty, and her steady, thoughtful approach. Her lovely personality, positive attitude, and deep knowledge make her a standout in every role.

Nora is currently studying to become a Flower Show School Judge, adding to an already impressive record of service and expertise. Flowers are her love language, and she strives to see beauty in all things. We’re fortunate to have such a gracious, energetic, and inspiring leader in the Northeast District and across our state.

All Down to a Box

A pillar of our community and cherished Garden Club member passed away earlier this year. Today, her belongings will be auctioned off. While her home was being cleaned out, a simple box was found, inside, decades of her life’s passion: her flower show awards.

Like most awards, they hold little value to the world at large, yet to those who knew and loved her, they are priceless reminders of her care, talent, and joy in every bloom she grew.

Her collection will now find a permanent home in the “club house” of her beloved Chouteau Garden Club, where she spent so many happy times among friends and flowers alike.

Like fleeting blooms that fade and become memories, so too are friendships that we should cherish while those special people are with us all the more.

Our very own Donna Smith and Nora Courtney attended the Meet the President - A Day of Fun at the Euchee Butterfly Farm! 🦋🌿

What a wonderful day at the Euchee Butterfly Farm, followed by a delicious lunch at 1843 in Coweta and a visit to the Flower Meadow! We learned so much about native plants and butterflies from the phenomenal David and his wife, whose passion and knowledge are truly inspiring.

Everyone had a fantastic time and left wanting to help grow this beautiful farm even more. There’s even talk of selling native seeds and plants this spring — a perfect way to support the farm and our communities.
