An article from NBC news found yet another reason why we are uniting against robotaxis & pushing back against AI tools being used to maximize company profits. Drivers AND consumers pay the price when riders are charged different prices for the same trip or when drivers are offered different pay for the same exact ride.

On top of that, robotaxis continue to prove that they are unsafe for passengers. They are supposed to have emergency phone numbers to call in case they go haywire and are actually unstaffed, disconnected, or listed incorrectly.

Say YES to PEOPLE, NO to ROBOTAXIS!

Texas law requires autonomous vehicle companies to tell first responders how to reach them in emergencies. NBC News tested the numbers in all 17 published plans.

We attended IAM Union’s Women’s and Young Workers: Workers vs. Billionaires Rally. We were honored to stand in solidarity with fellow union members and make it clear that the workers are the ones who have the power!

Without the actual drivers who make our communities move, Uber and Lyft would have no business; they would just have an app. We are the ones who take people to work and school on time, and drop people off at home safely at night. Workers make it all happen.

President Genie Kastrup spoke powerfully about the impact workers have when we stand together: “SEIU Local 1 joined together with our siblings at the IAM Union to help drivers organize and build the App Drivers Union … Drivers organized, rallied, and traveled to the State Capitol every week to share their story, and in the final hours of the legislative session, rideshare drivers passed one of the most progressive laws in the country.”

Drivers were excited to celebrate the 55th annual Mexican Independence Day Parade in Little Village yesterday! This years' theme, "United We Ride, Stronger Than Ever," honors the unity of our community. ¡Viva México!

We were excited to join the SEIU Local 1 fall Membership Meeting to get members who also drive rideshare signed up on union cards! We asked everyone in attendance to make sure they spread the word to any drivers in their lives – whether it be a relative, neighbor, or coworker – that you can now sign a union card with us.

Driver Roberto Pillajo shared why they personally decided to join: “For too long, companies like Uber and Lyft have been taking advantage of us, and they need to be held accountable…By signing my card, I am helping build our strength as a union so we can fight for our industry to finally work for the drivers.”

It has been one year since the Midway Blitz operation began. Today we remember Silverio Villegas González, and the countless members of our communities who were violently taken by ICE. We will keep fighting and standing up against their attacks until we are no longer being terrorized and can all live safely.

Happy Labor Day, App Drivers Union family! We were proud to participate in this year's Chicago Labor Day parade and honor the hard work we do to keep our state moving. The celebration energized our fight and reminded us that when drivers stand together, we WIN!
