Tfw you’re an apex river predator, morphologically unchanged for 90 million years, with a 210-newton bite force… and somehow find yourself being manhandled by some interns in a lime-green pontoon boat 😵‍💫🐢

We’re dipping our toes into some herpetology by way of local turtle population surveys! We’ll be working with the wonderful Laura Guderyahn and Kathryn Greene to establish a survey protocol that we can use to study turtles (and other amphibians and reptiles) along the Wild Mile and broader Chicago River. Friends Of The Chicago River will also be using these surveys as a baseline for potential future restoration work.

Shoutout to Urban Rivers intern Selma for her bravery in turtle-wrangling!!
