For Harrell, home has brought comfort and stability while he focuses on his health and recovery. With support from his case manager, he is taking things one day at a time and looking forward to what comes next.

Maura’s connection to this work spans more than two decades, from leading housing programs at Heartland Human Care Services to helping shape Chicago’s homelessness response at DFSS. As Acting Commissioner, she helped lead services reaching hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans across homelessness, youth services, workforce development, senior services, and more. He remembers neighbors reaching out in friendship and staff being there to answer questions and help point him in the right direction. Today, Ricardo spends much of his time giving back to the community he now calls home.
