💜 Alopecia Awareness- Personal Story from an amazing Alopecia mama, Jessica Calderon

Three years of navigating Alopecia with my daughter Xareni has taught us so much. The biggest blessing? Finding our community. 💙
Connecting with amazing families showed us we aren't alone. We found a community who listens without judgment and know that Alopecia is truly more than "just hair." I’m so grateful that I can now pass that encouragement on to other parents just beginning their journey.
We are all on different paths, but as a community, we’ve got each other. Be kind always—you never know what someone is going through! ✨

A closer look inside alopecia, in honor of Alopecia Awareness month, from someone local to us- the Amazing Courtney Canada

Three years ago, I stood in front of a mirror and shaved off the little bit of hair I had left. I had watched it slowly fall out for 2 years and decided to take control of it myself that day.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment. There was grief in it. Fear. Uncertainty. I wondered what I would see when I looked in the mirror afterward. I wondered if I would still recognize myself and feared how others would see me.

And honestly, learning to accept myself without hair didn’t happen overnight. Many days I still feel different and there have been days where I struggle at the reflection staring back at me. But slowly I have changed.

I stopped seeing a woman who was missing something and started seeing a woman who was learning to love herself exactly as she was.

Three years later, I am still completely bald — and I can finally say that being bald doesn’t make me feel less like myself. If anything, it has taught me more about who I really am.

And maybe the biggest lesson this journey has taught me is that accepting yourself doesn’t mean learning to love every circumstance. It means realizing that you are still worthy of love, confidence, and happiness exactly as you are.

So whatever your struggles…whatever your insecurities are…know that God made you just right. Don’t hide yourself to make others comfortable. You got this ❤️

Every child deserves to feel confident, celebrated, and completely free to be themselves.

Reminding children with alopecia or any difference/disability that they are never alone—and that true beauty shines from the courage and joy within. 💙
