So we are on day two of what’s been dubbed the Kurk fire that started yesterday afternoon and grew from a spark to over a 1000 acres in just a few hours so let me take a second to remind us to be very vigilant. We are still in extreme fire conditions. Please don’t do any outdoor activities that could cause sparks and no outdoor burning. we received a lot of State TFS resources quickly and thanks to several large air tankers that were sent to us forward progression was stopped yesterday evening and at this time it is currently 30% contained a lot of TFS cruise work through the night with several dozer, cutting containment lines we have more air Support today and are hopeful to make good progress by evening. I would also like to express how much I love and appreciate our community. We have had a tremendous outpour from the community as well as local businesses, providing everyone on scene with water, Gatorade and food. I just want all those responsible for these actions to know how much they are appreciated. Continue to pray for our local responders, as well as all the state resources that are out here working in this situation.

💛During National Public Safety Telecommunications Appreciation Week, we recognize the men and women who serve as the first point of contact in times of emergency.

Our dispatchers are the calm voice in critical moments, providing life-saving information, coordinating response efforts, and ensuring the safety of both our citizens and first responders.

Over the past year, our team has demonstrated exceptional resilience - continuing to serve through flooding events, adapting to a new work environment, and maintaining operations from an off-site location to ensure uninterrupted service to our community. Despite ongoing challenges they have remained committed to their mission and to the people they serve.

They manage multiple calls, radios, and systems simultaneously, often under high stress, while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and composure.

Behind every call for service is a dispatcher working diligently to gather information, prioritize response, and keep deputies informed in real time.

Their work is often unseen, but it is essential to everything we do. We are grateful for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving our community.

Please join us in thanking our dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

To our San Saba County Dispatch,
Thank you.
Sheriff David L Jenkins.
