Meal Barrel Project Service Update — Wednesday, August 26
Good morning, everyone.
This is an announcement we are truly heartbroken to have to make again.
Due to today’s weather conditions and the impact they will have on our ability to safely prepare for distribution and send our drivers out, the Meal Barrel Project will not be able to provide food distribution or deliveries today.
We know this is especially disappointing because this marks our third consecutive week of interrupted service, and we do not take that lightly. We know that families plan around us. We know there are seniors, individuals with disabilities, parents, grandparents, and others who count on the food we provide. That is exactly why we waited until the last possible opportunity before making today’s decision.
Our intention was to open. We hoped conditions would allow us enough time to safely prepare, organize our volunteers and get our drivers where they needed to go. Unfortunately, we have reached the point where proceeding today would not be responsible or safe.
We are deeply sorry.
If you are experiencing an immediate food emergency, please dial 2-1-1. They can help connect you with food assistance and other resources available closest to you, including organizations that may be operating while we are unable to serve.
To everyone who has continued to be patient with us through these difficult weeks: thank you. We understand your frustration and disappointment because we share it. This organization exists to feed people, and there is nothing easy about having to tell our community that we cannot do that today.
We will continue working toward getting back to the dependable service our families deserve.
Please stay safe today, and please know how genuinely sorry we are to those who were counting on us.
