Memorial Day is not just the start of summer. It is a day to remember the American heroes who gave their lives defending this nation and the freedoms we hold dear.

Today, the Illinois State Rifle Association honors the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States of America. We also remember the Gold Star families who carry that sacrifice every day.

Freedom is never free. The rights protected by our Constitution, including the Second Amendment, were secured and defended by generations of Americans willing to stand in harm’s way for this country.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, we encourage every Illinois gun owner to take a moment to reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who never came home.

We remember them. We honor them. We will never forget them.

HB4999 will be heard in the House Gun Violence Prevention Committee, and the ISRA is asking members to file a witness slip in SUPPORT.

Let’s be clear:
We do NOT support red flag laws.

But under current Illinois law, someone can file a Clear and Present Danger report against you and you may never know who accused you.

That is wrong.

HB4999 helps restore due process by allowing disclosure of the accuser’s identity when ordered by the courts or FOID Review Board. Law-abiding citizens deserve the ability to defend themselves against false, malicious, retaliatory, or politically motivated accusations.

And accountability matters.

When people know their names may eventually be disclosed, they are far less likely to abuse the system with questionable or bad-faith reports.

Transparency protects rights.

Anonymous accusations should never be enough to destroy someone’s constitutional freedoms.

HB4471, the “G***k Ban Bill,” is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the House Gun Violence Prevention Committee.

This bill targets common lawful handguns while illegal switches are already banned under state and federal law. Springfield should punish criminals, not law-abiding Illinois gun owners.

Ralph Black, candidate for State Representative in the 44th District, brought a strong pro-Second Amendment message to IGOLD 2026. A committed supporter of gun rights, he spoke about the importance of defending the rights of law-abiding Illinois gun owners and why it is critical to elect representatives who will stand firm for the Constitution.
