Welcome to the Southern BEE Alliance!
We’re so glad you’re here.
It feels especially meaningful to arrive here at the intersection of Week of the Young Child and Black Maternal Health Week—two spaces that remind us that care must be held across the full continuum of life, and that sustaining the workforce behind that care is essential to healthy families and communities.
Southern BEE Alliance is a worker-owned cooperative rooted in care—founded by four women and sustained by a broader community—working to build a lasting care economy for birthworkers and the child care workforce across the Carolinas.
While we formally launched in 2023, this work has been in motion for years. It grew from stories in the field—birthworkers and early care providers naming the same unsustainable conditions placed on those who have long carried the work of birthing our communities and caring for our children.
Our vision is a future where families have access to coordinated support through pregnancy and early childhood, and where caregivers have the stability, shared ownership, and resources needed to thrive.
Cooperatives are not new in our communities—they reflect how we’ve always cared for one another. We believe this model can sustain this work. When caregivers are co-owners, they shape the work, share in its value, and build shared economic stability.
Follow us for opportunities to learn more about cooperatives and what it means to build a solidarity economy.
