Had you told me in 2024 that Walks About Nothing would draw 110 people out on a Wednesday Night just to connect and enjoy our downtown, I would have said you're crazy. While I had high hopes for this initiative, I didn't quite think we would be here.
But why should that be crazy? We have a beautiful downtown, and some of the best humans you will ever meet.
While these are Walks About Nothing, there is an incredible "something" that is taking place. We have watched walkers join City boards, start volunteering with us, share what they learn with others, and rally in support of businesses, proposals, and more.
But what else? Probably the most important... Strangers are becoming friends, neighbors are becoming more than just neighbors, and people are feeling a sense of connection and community.
To Bob, Helen, Nancy, and John, Thank you for showing how friendship can grow. They met a year ago at the first anniversary walk and are now the best of friends.
To Emily and Steve, our two who have never missed a walk. You set the bar for community engagement. You showed up, asked questions, took a genuine care and interest in Charles Town, volunteer, and support everything happening downtown. Thank you for showing up, no matter what.
I could go on with all of the stories, but I know attention spans are short, and I don't want people to think this is AI (it isn't). Just join us for a walk to see what it's about. First and Third Wednesday, 6pm City Hall.
Last, I need to thank Natalie at Ortega's Taco Shop for donating a nacho bar, Ryan Baker for donating his time to play us some tunes, Lissa Smith, owner of Winter & Rain Films for capturing these moments, Almost Heaven Frozen Custard & Treats for joining us, and Jessy Printz - Your Lender Friend for being the best host.
Yesterday, Revitalize, or Die. had a great post stating that people want to have fun and feel connected. This is the proof. Thank you for being part of the inspiration.
