Update on Gattlin, the filly that we saved in December from kill pen. I have been blessed to be super busy with client horses, however I had pushed Gattlin to the back burner. Finally, I have had an opportunity to spend some time with her.

Gattlin was completely unhandled- not halter broke and not able to be touched. I got her into a small pen within the paddock. From there I use the touch stick in an advance and retreat manner. I put pressure on her (stick near, then on her) then remove pressure when she relaxes. And of course, she is rewarded with treats. It was the 2nd day before she would take a treat from scoop in my hand. She made huge progress within the first sessions. She is very sweet and tries hard. I really love this beautiful filly. ❤️🐴

Hi friends! Pony Tales Club at Tennessee Moravian Farms would like to save this beautiful mare. We need your help!

Sadly, many wonderful draft horses end up slaughtered. Most often, they are bred my the Amish and worked hard until they are middle age (this mare is 13) then they are dumped off at auction to be replaced by a younger work horse. These auctions are usually out in the countryside and the only buyers are those who send them to slaughter. This is our chance to give this lovely, hard working mare a second chance.

Another reason that drafts go to slaughter is that they are sold by weight, so this beautiful gal has a heavy price on her head.
