Opinions and judgment. There have been a multitude of sanctuaries closing, people who care for and save animals committing su***de. I understand the stress that they've all been going through. Who does not understand that? People who look from the sidelines and judge. The chickens toenails are too long, the pasture is too muddy, anything else they decide to identify as not good enough for them.
I did not intend on saving animals and becoming an animal sanctuary and rescue. It found me and I obliged. For the past 4 years I have committed 4 hours a day of physical labor in addition to tens of thousands of dollars of my money to support these babies. I've weathered the passing of beloved friends along the way. I fostered babies that are now living in other sanctuaries and other states.
I know that my motivation and passion to care for these babies. is the only reason that they are alive and well today.
I'm on the verge of ending our non-profit and just being a place where animals live because I honestly can't take the scrutiny. They haven't donated, they haven't come here to volunteer yet they have very strong opinions of what's happening here.
The animals in our care get the love and support that they need. They have feed and water. They get veterinary care. There are limitations to what we can do that is for sure. We don't have tens of thousands of dollars in the bank prepared to take care of a very serious incident and we are hopeful that never happens.
Frankly, we are still paying off Walter's bills and cremation with Purdue.
Tonight I am walking our special needs girl Wanda. There's a lovely breeze blowing. I see the bigs in the pasture eating their hay and the littles cuddled up together. The birds are finding the mealworms I've scattered in the grass. Peggy is cozy in her stall after playing in her wallow today. The goaties are in and out of their stall as they like having plenty of fun, feed, hay and water.
I appreciate those of you who have stood by us, donating funds that I'm sure aren't easy to part with. I assure you that we have been good stewards to every single dollar.
I am one person who along with some support has saved 18 cows from an insidious industry. I've given talks on the dairy industry and veganism. I will never stop championing these remarkable beings.
If you believe in what we're doing and want to help, please respond here. There are so many ways to assist. It's not convenient to volunteer. It's certainly not convenient to donate. But we will never stop needing. We're coming into winter and we're going to need about $4,500 worth of hay to put up in the loft to get us through.
Thank you for listening. Part of my heart is broken but the more important part is strengthened because every single morning when I wake up and I see the faces that rely on me, I know that I will be there to take care of them, to give them what they need.
