Community Winter Storm Preparedness Update

With the uncertainty surrounding this weekend’s incoming winter storm, Operation Outreach America (OOA) is actively preparing to assist individuals and families across Northwest Georgia.

If conditions worsen, OOA will have a limited number of loaner generators available. Priority assistance will be given to elderly residents and households with children. If you or someone you know may need support, please reach out to us.

As many remember the impacts of the 1993 storm, preparation is essential. Please keep the following safety reminders in mind:

• Four-wheel-drive vehicles provide limited traction on ice
• Stock up on non-perishable food items
• Charge all power banks and electronic devices
• Ensure a safe and reliable heating source
• Store plenty of drinking water
• Have flashlights and extra batteries available
• Baby wipes can be very helpful during outages
• Use candles with caution
• Fill all vehicles with fuel before the storm
• Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary

Please stay safe, prepare early, and check on neighbors who may be vulnerable.

We are absolutely heartbroken to hear the news regarding the Biffle family. Greg did so much for those suffering during Helene and was instrumental in delivering supplies to the hardest hit areas. He was an amazing humanitarian, and his family, undoubtedly, was his support base. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

We here at OOA want to recognize an amazing organization right here in our hometown also. They are doing amazing things every year for many years with their Appalachian Christmas giveaway ..It was brought to my attention by my great friend who is helping them also Ryan Goss. Praise Ministries International every year takes tractor and trailer loads of gifts to the Appalachian mountains. As we all know, there is a lot of unfortunate souls trying to just feed themselves and kids up there. I’m asking anyone that can go to their page and there is a donation link where you can help them help others. They are doing amazing work and putting smiles on family‘s faces.

Last night and this morning our organization has reached out to the US embassy in Jamaica to see if we could be any of assistance to the community there. This is a “perfect storm “ unfortunately that means mass casualties and destruction. We will keep everyone posted on what they and we decide to do. Please pray for Jamaica 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hard to believe it's been a year Since you roared into town.
Sadness,great loss, deep scars Are left where you touched down.
Change has been so hard
But it weaved lives together.
Helene you were so strong And brought more than just weather.
Through this great tragedy Of wind, mud slides, and rain.
We learned to be tough and Somehow deal with the pain.
Strength, togetherness, and Community came shining through. Along with resilience, love, And friendship true. Fire Dept members and First Responders endured great danger.
Help also came from family, Friends, neighbors, and strangers.
God sent many our way To lend a helping hand. To cut down trees, scrape, and
Tough as we mountain folk are The devastation brought tears.
Our harsh experience made us Realize healing will take years
God's mercy and grace Was given and shared.
His love flowed in
As people showed, they cared.
Gratitude overflows in my heart
Even though weariness is there too.

We were finally able to get this sweet couple's porch and steps finished today!! Both in their 80s, and with many other pressing issues, they simply could not afford this. And this was of the utmost importance so medical transports could be accomplished safely. Thank you to everyone who helped!! Im so grateful for my son and my parents who didnt hesitate to put in the work to help this couple in need! My parents have been involved in missions and disaster relief since I was very young, and I couldn't be prouder of my son for having the same mindset and determination!! ~ Regena

So many people have helped us over the last year in Western North Carolina so it’s easier to let everyone know. One year ago on September 27th we were asked to come up there a day after Helene hit not exactly sure what we were getting into. Through the grace of God and a lot of beautiful hearts Operation Outreach America became one of the most reputable and respected organizations in the country. We have grown tremendously across the nation and still growing. I’m asking for anyone that wants to join us in WNC for the one year anniversary, You are invited!! We can’t wait to see all of our family up there!! Please send us a message if you would like to attend this celebration of life and resilience.

Ok, everyone has asked how they can help with Operation Outreach America. We have now came to the point we need local volunteers. We are recruiting 15 people that can help and be apart of our organization heard in Cartersville GA. We have a lot of stuff coming up and need volunteers with big hearts. I am honored to have been invited to Auburn University to address the student body on the critical issues of poverty in our nation and the profound impact natural disasters have on communities and lives. The students and faculty were truly inspiring in their engagement and compassion. In fact, they expressed a strong interest in establishing a chapter at Auburn dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Witnessing such genuine commitment and empathy in these young leaders was both humbling and uplifting.
