In the United States today, over 120,000 men, women, and children are waiting for an organ transplant. Sometimes they wait for years. Sometimes that wait is only the beginning of their struggle. Organ transplants save lives, but they’re incredibly expensive. Total surgery costs can range from $250,000 to $1 million, and that’s just for the first year. Most patients need to take anti-rejection drug
s their entire lives, and some of those can cost as much as $50,000 per year. A patient’s insurance might not cover all of these costs. If a patient is lucky enough to have a matching organ available, he or she shouldn’t have to forgo this life-saving opportunity because of the cost. Unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening to far too many people. Every single day, 18 to 20 people in the Georgia die while waiting for a transplant. Others die after surgery because they cannot afford the medications to keep them alive. Still more face financial hardship for years after somehow scraping together the money for the transplant and medications. However, that’s why Heart to Heart is here. From our hometown in Cartersville, GA, we’re helping organ transplant patients in the Atlanta, GA area; throughout Georgia; and across the United States. Our organ donation fundraising program is dedicated to helping patients and their families afford the devastating costs of medications, health insurance, personal expenses like mortgage payments, and the medical devices they need to stay alive. We have four main goals for our charity:
Raise Awareness
Raise Funds
Support Families in Need
Emotional Support
Best of all, we’ve come up with a new and creative way to raise money: we’re building custom playhouses! The Asano family, founders of Heart to Heart, has been touched by the hardship of organ transplants. Their example is what inspires us to keep going every day, through the tears and the triumphs – triumphs like raising money for a little boy who needed and received a kidney transplant.
