Our volunteers assembled today to put together some weekend goodness for 120 local students.

It’s hard to believe there are only 4 weeks left in the school year! We’re so grateful to everyone who helps make these bags possible week after week for local kids and families.

Every child deserves reliable food. Our weekend food bags are available to any student who needs one. If a food bag would help your family, we want you to have one.

Each week we carefully shop within our budget to build bags filled with shelf-stable breakfasts, snacks, and easy meals that give students variety and something they can prepare themselves.

If a bag would help your family, you can reach out to your school office to opt in for anonymous weekly pick up. This program is made possible by a community that cares deeply about supporting its kids!

Ever wonder what goes into a Backwoods Foundation food bag?

Each one is planned to provide a shelf-stable breakfast, lunch, and dinner for every day a child is out of school — plus a shelf stable milk and 2–3 snacks per day.

We strive for the food to be:
• Shelf-stable for backpacks and school storage
• Easy to open and prepare
• Kid-friendly and filling
• Balanced with protein, grains, fruits, and fiber

We buy in bulk and plan carefully so 120+ students each week have reliable food they can count on.

A lot of thought goes into every single bag, and they are carefully hand packaged by volunteers each week of the school year!

It’s Friday! Which means our discrete food bags are going home with students across our county today.

This happens because of volunteers and community partners who care deeply about making sure no child goes hungry over the weekend! Want to make a difference? This is it! ❤️

Such amazing holiday cheer from our annual holiday food assembly event! 🎄❤️ What makes this program truly special is our incredible community of volunteers who show up week after week, not just for the holidays, to make sure kids in our community always have access to food when school isn’t in session. When school breaks can mean empty cupboards, we’re here to help fill the gap! ❤️

Back in October, we had the unique opportunity to partner with Evergreen Energy Partners during their Team Days event at Skamania Lodge! Their team of roughly 120 volunteers donated and helped pack two full weekends’ worth of food for school-aged children in Skamania County, as well as a Winter Wellness Kit that will go in bags this week in preparation for the holidays. In addition to volunteering, Evergreen Energy Partners generously funded all of the supplies for this project, ensuring we had everything needed to support local kids this season.

This event was large, meaningful, and a wonderful example of community, generosity, and genuine kindness. We are so grateful for their support! ❤️
